Here are your finals from Tour Trials...
« on: June 06, 2004, 12:28:11 AM »
1, Mike Edwards, Tulsa, Okla., 10,814
2, Patrick Girard, Canada, 10,248
3, Brian Kretzer, Dayton, Ohio, 10,202
4, Mike Wolfe, New Albany, Ind., 10,200
5, Shannon Buchan, Waterloo, Iowa, 10,176
6, Eugene McCune, Munster, Ind., 10,065
7, David Traber, Bull Valley, Ill., 10,059
8, Jim Pratt, Glendale, Ariz., 10,057

Can you imagine the reaction if someone had said ahead of Day 1 that 10,000 could be shot AND NOT MAKE THE TOP 8?

For the day, playing on pattern E, I also found this positions interesting since some have opined that women would not fare well on E...

29, Missy Bellinder, Fullerton, Calif., 2,064
30, Kendra Gaines, Orlando, Fla., 2,062

They may have been off the top-8 pace for the day, but they didn't do poorly.  Not to mention that all three women entered in the Trials at least cracked the top-50, which is also better than some predicted on other forums.

Leave traber alone! If you are so good where were you this week certinly not at the trials. Gotta give the man respect he gets the job done with the limited natural abality that he has. He may not be pretty but he is there, while u sit at home next season and watch him.

Traber is good at what he does. He is a fierce competitor. Say what you want, but he has multiple PBA National titles, and comes to play. Love him or hate him, that's your choice, but don't disrespect his ability to chunk that rock down the lanes and knock down the sticks. He performs under pressure better than most. He already stated that if he didn't make the exempt tour, he had nothing lined up and would probably end up selling his house. Now - that's performing under pressure!! With the shorter match play formats, stamina will not be as big an issue. Look for Traber to win some more.

Damn that guy McCune.  Now I gotta go find a rosin bag to eat... <sigh>

As dazed and confused as I am that "My Week" McCune made the exempt tour, I have to give credit where it's due.  The guy averaged 241 today to pull himself up into 6th place overall.  That was a lot of pressure, and he handled it.

My hat is off to Eugene McCune and Dave Traber.  Gutsy performance, guys!

I have never been a big fan of Traber.  I went there today expecting to see a bunch of guys fry including Traber.  In the last game, he flushed the last 11 to get a spot.  Pretty tough when he was tied with Bill Rowe going in and Rowe had the front 9.  He has my respect.

Considering that both McCune and Traber are "love'em" or "hate'em" guys, I have to think that both making the top 8 at the Trials is a good thing for the PBA...there always have to be the bad guys to balance the good guys, and anything that potentially draws more attention to each event is needed exposure for the Tour.  And I can guarantee you that Trabes is the type of player that can feed off that "haters"

I've watched Mike Edwards bowl for years and I am surprised he shot that well. He nust have been "really on a roll."......,Congratulations Mike.

I am glad for Dave Traber.  I like his fire and determination.  Unfortunately when bowling for a job you are tooth and nail with the other guy.  You aren't there to make friends or slap each other on the back.  You are there to get it done and whip their butt.  When it is all over then shake hands and be friends.

What happened to Randy Pederson.  He dropped completely off the board.

I know Traber has the skills to bowl, it's just that every time I see him make a telecast, I cringe thinking of the fact that he epitomizes the very image the general public has of a professional bowler... an overweight, beer-bellied, very non-athletic type playing a game rather than a sport. He certainly doesn't do the sport that provides his meals any image favors - and I find that rather sad.

Other than Mike who didn't really need to show up for the last few games, look how close these guys were.  Around 200 pins from 2d to 8th.  I've always been amazed at just how talented these guys are and how closely matched they are at that level.

Great shooting by all of them.  Too bad ESPN didn't see fit to televise it.  Could have turned it into a great insite on just how difficult it really is to make a living out there.

PS, was glad to see Dave and the Rocket make it.  Both of them have more than paid their dues.  Love me/hate em, their still great bowlers.

give dave traber his due----he made it. that's what matters. he's a multi-titleist and has won a major. now he's got a spot for next year. however, tim mack, who many people figured would dominate the pba the way he did the amateur ranks, finished 43rd......

You have to give Traber credit for what he accomplished, but man oh man is that guy "video unfriendly". I mean come on, this is a spectator sport, so obviously you want people to watch. He doesn't do much for the sport in that regard for sure.

I am happy to see one of the guys from my local area make the cut, Kretzer brings some excitement into the picture. IMO, you really need some dynamic type people like Pete, Kretzer, etc. with some personality to make bowling attractive to a TV audience. With that being said though still, hats off to Traber for gutting it out with a really great finish.

Yeah, I think Kretzer is more exciting to watch than Traber, any day. He's definitely got a more exciting game, as well as a higher intensity personality. When I say video friendly, I don't necessarily mean photogenic, just more fun to watch bowl.

Not really sure you get more intense than Traber on the lanes.
