High scores this week, eh?
« on: February 14, 2008, 02:46:29 AM »
http://www.pba.com/livescoring/qual_results.aspx?RoundID=998

Barnes shoots 820 for the first three, WRW Jr. shoots 807, Liz Johnson comes out of the TQR and promptly has a 788, an oft-injured Norm has 782...

What's up with the scoring this week? They couldn't get the Scorpion to play a little tougher?

The Scorpion has been the highest scoring pattern all season it seems.  Even more thann Cheeter.....I mean Cheetah.

I am betting they will do some major modifications to it in the offseason.

Only three people under 200 and a quick check shows the field averaging 226.3 for the first 3 games.

It is only a matter of time till the pros figured out the shots and are able to score on them like they did the house shots of lore.  Eventually the PBA will have to change all the shots.  The PBA should be more proactive and have a time frame where one shot is changed a year.  This would keep it tough for everyone.  If all you bowled on day-in day-out was the same 5 patterns (minus the idiosynchrocies of each venue), many bowlers would become better.  It is a simple case of adaptation.

That isn't always, true otehrwise the scores on the Shark would be through the roof or the scores on Chameleon would be through the roof.  Cheetah is supposed to be easy because of the outside play creating entry angle.  Whatever they did to Scorpion last year has just made it super easy.  It is even the easiest shot in my PBA Experinece league.

And they do modify the shots all the time.  They modified Cheetah this year too so guys couldn't just stand left and chuck it right and watch it hit the pocket.

How about this: go back to coming up with a pattern based on each tournament venue and the tournament director's wishes.

Novel thought, isn't it? Doing what they used to do, when the Tour was successful?

Oh, wait...we can't have that happen! It would throw the whole PBA Experience out of whack...

I love the idea of changing (or maybe even throwing out and coming up with a new shot) every year.

How about this for a proposal.  At the end of every National Tour year (or maybe every couple of years) the PBA retires the highest scoring pattern and introduces a new one.  It doesn't kill the pattern for regional or PBA experience leagues - but it does continue to force the national tour to be challenged.

Or this Novle approach not tell anyone what the shot is and let the bowler figure out where to play

Then you would have some people bring 100 balls...lol I think the chameleon so far in the PBA experience league has been the easiest but I haven't played the scorpion yet but it looks easy on paper. The shark is one of my better patterns because you just have to be accurate which is why i love it.

This is where bowling has lost it.  No talent and Money can beat hard work and learning.  Sad Sad Sad
I think you can only have 9 balls in the paddock, not sure though.

You honestly think if you didn't tell them, they wouldn't figure the pattern out?

I don't remember prior to the 'PBA Patterns' an entire field averaging 225+ or the cut-line at like plus 300

Whatever the case may be, something is going on, as the scores are high. No one is under. Parker Bohn in last?

u guys can actually call it easy, but remember that this year the pba already made changes using 2 different types of oil
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.
