There was a topic in the Misc section titled this. And that just got me thinking about the  boxes they bring up on every telecast. Are these rating relative to only the equipment a bowler has or are they true across everyone? For example, Bowler A has 2 balls, say a Crux and a Rocket. The Crux gets a 10, the rocket an 8 (just guessing here, not to be taken as fact). Bowler B has a Guru and a Venom Shock. The Guru gets a 10. Now if the Venom Shock gets an 8 would that mean it would be equal strength wise to the Rocket or just that relative to the Guru it's an 8? Just something I was curious about. Another way to look at it is, are all the balls that get a 10 equal or just the biggest hook potential ball in each person's bag that show? Just curious.

I'd have to side with it being relative to each person. I have seen some interesting numbers for that before.

When they first started doing these "stats", I noticed some that would say 7.6, 9.4. I always wondered how in the world they came up with those figures. I also wonder if it has anything to do with the layout they are using. Since almost all the shows are taped nowadays, they could ask the bowlers to rank their 4-5 balls they are bringing onto the show.

I have heard them say on the show that the bowler rates the balls he uses. So the numbers must represent how he feels about each ball. On this past Sunday's show I saw 2 bowlers rate the same ball: one have it an 8.0 and the other gave the same ball a 7.5.

This makes the most sense. Probably on a scale of 1 - 10 for that particular bowler.
