What do you think the averages are going to be?

I will say maybe 2 bowlers will be over 220.

And I think there is going to be a few (4 -5) in 190s.

I don't know how easy or hard they are going to make the shot but I think there will be some higher averages than what is being said.
Duke, WRW, and Robert Smith if he can resist swinging it should all be in the finals. Duke and WRW cause they are already used to playing straight up.. and Smith can overpower the lanes with his revs... Barnes may have a chance too... as long as he doesn't have to use the spare ball for his 10 pins..

Well qualifying will be done as usual with normal equipment. Then when the top 64 is set, then and only then will the plastic balls be used. Each player will be issued 2 PBA 50th Ann. plastic balls. So qualifying averages will be the usual.

As for the style of bowlers who make the tv finals wont be the rev dominant but more like Parker Bohn, WRW, Duke (yes i know hes not bowling), anyone whos got the experience playing off the corners. Cant wait to see some of the scores and results later this week.

Mark Roth averaged over 220 for a whole year in 1979 using plastic, so i think an average at least that high can still be done, especially if these plastic covered balls have performance cores in them.

You take a modified CHEETAH pattern ( read "modified" as lower volume ), soft plastic covers that "bleed" like some of the old yellow dots did, and strong cores that cause the balls to flare up, and it wouldn't surprise me to see scores as high or higher than a regular tournament.

The P.B.A. isn't going to let their guys look like chumps on national tv, and is probably going to use this tournament as propaganda, trying to tell everyone the pros are so good they can even make a plastic ball strike hard.

You give me drier lanes and a soft plastic "bleeder" cover with a flaring core and I'll make it look good too, especially if the people watching don't know whats going on and think the pros are using "houseballs".

we may be surprised by the averages and the outcome of this tournament. back in the 1990's when both chris barnes and robert smith were on team usa coach fred borden set up a plastic ball tournament. robert smith shot a 300 game and chris barnes shot over 1,000 for a four game block.

Why does everyone assume that the pros will not wack them. Whether these guys are using resin,urethane or plastic if the shot is condusive to the type of cover they are using, and a scorable condition they will have no problem scoring.

The scores will be down somewhat because of one thing....carry. When was the last time anyone out there has carried well with a pancake weight block. Not saying these guys are gonna look bad just saying there will be a couple slightly errant shots that don't get a bounce. Think about it...leave a ten (or seven) in the middle of a string and it will cost you 21 pins....one shot like that per set will cost ya 7 pins on your average.

It's 27 feet of oil as a modified Cheetah, these guys will be hooking the ball, and like another person on here said, " The PBA doesn't want to make their guys look like chumps"

There's a guy in Nashville averaging 250 with a plastic ball this season at Hermitage Lanes! I think the scores will be in the 220 range at least! I remember the plastic days and you can still strike a lot with plastic and the scores will be high and don't be surprised to see a 300 in qualifying!

There is a reason that Roth averaged so high with plastic... He is able to manipulate the heck out of the ball. Having said that, here are my predictions for this week's show:

Robert Smith
Tommy Jones
Kenny Simard
Sean Rash

Pure power in my opinion. These guys will carry the 10 out and that will be the difference. Don't count out folks like Mike Fagan, Chris Barnes, and John Nolen who also have their fair share of available revs.

For those of you who are looking for a stroker to make the show, don't forget that Brian Voss will be in the field.

Also, I can see Mike DeVaney doing well with plastic... Another possibility. He's been bowling well lately too, falling just short of TV quite a few times.
