I'm glad they're letting the left play again this week!

Consider that 7-10% of the adult population is left-handed...at least according to one study (and Wikipedia ).

Therefore (if this statistic is true), there should be (at most) an average of 3.2 lefties per week...if the Tour had the same percent ratios. But the thing is, the Tour doesn't -- I'd venture to say that 10-15% of the Tour is left-handed.

Even then, only 3-5 lefties should make it each week. But then again, when was the last time math meant anything?

You dont understand. all lefties on tour are fabulous athletes overcoming great hurdles of inequity. every one is the great stylist of his time.

it is just a coincidence that they all bowl great the same weak.

My friend had a guy on our league (both are right handed) come up to him last week and say: "I would like to see a week where there are 9 lefties on a pair and only one righty, what do you think they would do then, huh?!  My friend, not missing a beat says: "They would probably b!tch like all of us righties do all the time"!  I think that about puts things in proper perspective now doesn't it!

If you have that big of a lefty hang up, here's a suggestion: BOWL LEFT HANDED!Only then will you see that we too have to work at creating a line, which can be hard to do sometimes (I know it seems impossible, doesn't it?) when your are the only one moving oil around and down the lane.  When I face a shot where I need some mid lane push, guess what, I am screwed and have to work extra hard to find a line (what a concept, I don't blame the other side because they are doing well, I ACTUALLY adjust and try to beat them, what a novice idea!).  There are times the left side plays easier, there is no doubt about that, especially when lanes break down quick and we can hold line longer before moving (We may not move as much, but guess what, we still move!).  In the end, the cream rises to the top over the course of a season (or in this case the PBA season), and you will see the better lefties (i.e. PA, PB3, etc.) will finish high and the lower tier guys will remain, well, lower tier guys.  You have to have talent no matter what hand you bowl with, it just seems there is much more complaining when there are lefties bowling well, than when righties are dominating.

When you are left handed you are in a catch 22 all the time.  If righties dominate they say the shot was "even" and "fair", but when lefties bowl well the shot is "stacked in their favor".  I have never said to a right handed bowler when I lost to them in match play, "gee looks like the right side is walled up, no lefty has a shot against the wall you guys have".  NO, because I respect the people that bowl well regardless of the hand they throw the ball with.  I wish more righties had the same respect for lefties when they bowl well.

The just switch hands is the lamest statement made in these debates.

without injry few have the patience to learn to use there non dominate hand.

Statements like the one made above are pretty lame if you ask me.  I merely stated that if the going is too tough on the right side of the lane, try it on the other side.  With enough practice and hard work anything is possible (one of my friends injured his right wrist and has been bowling for 4 years left handed with a lot of practice and now averages over 200). Just be prepared to be belittled and dismissed when you start bowling well from the left side.

Have you ever seen a lefty switch to righty and bowl as well? I havent

each side is a different game, a lot different. who knows which is easier.

I agree with the fact that no one knows which side is easier until you have tried both.  That is pretty much what I try to explain to people who like to bash lefties but have no idea what goes on over there, just like I have no idea what goes on over on the right side of the lane, so I would never say that it is playing easier when I can't find a shot on my side of the lane.  There is always a shot somewhere on each side of the lane, every time you bowl, you just have to find it.  I have no control over which hand was going to be my dominant hand, yet I feel that I am always having to defend the fact that I bowl with my left hand like I have some kind of disease.  I wish all the bowlers well in the round of 32 (lefties and righties alike) and hope that if a couple of lefties make the show, people may realize that they got there on talent and skill, and not use the cop out that they got there because they are "lefties".

I know this.  There have been 8 tournaments this year and last week was the first one won by a lefty.  That averages out to 12%, or over the course of a 24 tournament season, there would be 21 victories for the righties, and 3 for the lefties.  That does not seem like an outright advantage for the lefties to me.  There are going to be ups and downs over a season for both sides, but things even out eventually.  I did not come on here the first seven weeks screaming that the lanes are rigged because no lefties had won yet.  It is the way it goes, the PBA tweaks the lanes so that there is competitive balance in the sport and so no one side as a landslide advantage over the course of an entire season.  This week the lefties are bowling well, so far.  Things can change quickly in match play, and you may see no lefties on the show, it is just the nature of the beast.  The person who reads the lanes the quickest and outsmarts and outcarries his opponent the best will win, right or left handed it, does not matter.
