The PBA has a major problem on it's hand.  The only way to increase the prize funds is to increase the interest in competitive bowling, so that sponsors will pay for the larger prize funds.  However, in modern society, where there are many more entertainment options than in years past, it's much tougher to get people to commit to long bowling seasons.  Secondly, the handicap system has made leagues and tournaments jokes.  Seriously, everybody knows the vast majority of tournament winners will be sandbaggers, so many don't even try. Scores are way out of whack, it has become way too easy for bowlers to get honor scores, and instead of striving for perfection, bowlers feel entitled to the honor scores.  Many bowlers have quit after getting their 300 game, because they reached the top, with too much ease.

The game of bowling is broken, and until it's fixed, the PBA doesn't stand a chance.  Maybe the only way for the PBA to attract the positive attention, would be to have a sexy lady come along and dominate.  Unfortunately, while there are a few decent looking ones, they can barely get a sniff against the guys.
