From a few so called "rumors" John Nolan has retired and taken a job where he lives.

Yea he retired. Guess he finally figured out that being out there isn't worth the $ unless you have a great WSOB now and a good showing in the majors which he hasn't since he won the Masters. Losing his ball contract with Ebonite didn't help either but I could be wrong.

so as long as your not winning tournaments those ball companies drop you like its hot huh???what about helping these tour players out some

Really...?  This has to be explained?  So you win a tourney as a flash in the pan and you're given a ball contract for life?  I'm not hating on John as he's a good player...but the point of ball contracts isn't to "help tour players"...it's to sell bowling balls.  Corporations aren't in it for the love, they have money to make...it's how employees get paid and how revenue stays up.  Giving everything to anyone who ever won something big doesn't help a company sell balls in the local shop.

 

Brett Wolf won the Masters in 1999 in similar fashion....if you haven't heard of him there's a reason.  He got a look for a week and ran the field over...tried the tour and couldn't cut it so he went back to being an amateur and working for a living.  Should he still be on staff with Hammer now?

Rumor had it that after he won the Masters, he went to ebonite and wanted his contract to be upgraded from Regional to Exempt, Guess they thought winning the Masters wasn't enough. As a few people put it, there's been a few guys that have won the masters and never heard from again and he didn't have a good year last year even though the WSOB was held in a center he knew well.
 
I wish him all the best, he did what a lot of people on the board wish they could do and made a boatload of $ doing it. The PBA just isn't a dream to chase anymore, I hear kids saying all the time they don't want to be a pro anymore because there's no future in it.

 Slight correction..brent wolfe won in 2001.  Was Faball still in business in 2001?  Not sure.
