I like Randy, mostly because he has the background to give him credibility, but also because he at least tries to inject some humor and information into the telecast. Sometimes he can be a little over-enthusiastic or cliche, but I'm willing to bet that's due to the pressure being put on him and Rob to make the telecasts more entertaining.
As much as I loved Chris Schenkel and Bo Burton, Jr., they wouldn't last a month with the competition the PBA has for viewership today. Those guys were pretty classy, but at the same time fairly monotone. (The biggest reason why the PBA did so well in the ratings back in the 70s and 80s was that there wasn't much else on - We only had 3 VHF channels back then, along with a couple of crappy UHF stations...and bowling came on just before ABC's Wide World of Sports.)
Give Randy a break. He's a heck of lot more entertaining than Barnes (jeez that voice grinds at my nerves...it sounds like Fozzy Bear from the Muppets is in the booth when Barnes is doing the color commentary).
