Title: I like Rob Stone!! Now get rid of Randy Peterson!!
Post by: strikecing on July 11, 2010, 02:17:29 PM
I have been watching bowling alot for the last 6 years or so....  I enjoy Rob Stone a ton!!  This Summer some of the Womens Championship and Collegiate events have had some different Pros helping with the play by play.   And it makes me hate Randy Peterson!!  ITs the same thing every week like a broken record!!!  Hit em thin and watch them spin, Get a cup of coffe to go with that sweet roll, 10 back high flush, and never seem to get into anything new!! Does anyone else feel this way?

i like rob stone, makes me laugh a lot

randy... for technical stuff is ok

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I like Randy, mostly because he has the background to give him credibility, but also because he at least tries to inject some humor and information into the telecast.  Sometimes he can be a little over-enthusiastic or cliche, but I'm willing to bet that's due to the pressure being put on him and Rob to make the telecasts more entertaining.

As much as I loved Chris Schenkel and Bo Burton, Jr., they wouldn't last a month with the competition the PBA has for viewership today.  Those guys were pretty classy, but at the same time fairly monotone.  (The biggest reason why the PBA did so well in the ratings back in the 70s and 80s was that there wasn't much else on - We only had 3 VHF channels back then, along with a couple of crappy UHF stations...and bowling came on just before ABC's Wide World of Sports.)

Give Randy a break.  He's a heck of lot more entertaining than Barnes (jeez that voice grinds at my nerves...it sounds like Fozzy Bear from the Muppets is in the booth when Barnes is doing the color commentary).

+1,000. Get rid of both of them. I hate the current telecasts.

Also I suggest more technical analysis of the bowling balls they use. They have dabbled in this area at times but never decided to keep it .

I just don't understand why they don't do this.  They did it a little bit durring the women's event, but not durring any other telecast.  If it has anything to do with Randy being a storm staffer, then get rid of him.  I like the factory team shootout bit, but tell people what they're throwing, how it's drilled, why they are using it, etc...  Inform the viewers.  Sure the "casual" viewer won't care, but are there any "casual" viewers?  Anyone that watches bowling on TV are bowlers themselves and want to know.

Every other sport has this type of analysis. It shouldn't be about the casual viewer....it should be about the fans. And I think most fans of the PBA would a more in depth analysis.

I don't think very many people enjoy much of what is going on in the PBA.  The
telecasts are primarily a product of the ownership.  At a local pro shop, a
couple of years ago, Randy held a question and answer session.  He was very
honest and forthright and answered all questions honestly.  He is under great
restraint as to what he can say.  "They" have killed the shows.

Marshall is not coming back to the weekly telecasts. He is perfectly happy running his businesses and doesn't need to travel around each week to work the shows. Although with nearly everything being taped in single places now maybe it's not so far fetched now...

oh please stfu for this. I am so sick of people coming out with the current announcers and saying "let's bring out some ex has been". Marshall Holman and Mike Durbin were fine at it's time and they have their time. They will never nor should never announce again nor unless they got some ridiculous contract wouldn't do it anyways. So as much as I can't stand Stone and been sick on and off the lanes antics of Pederson for 20 years would love to see new faces. Yes, even Durbin and Holman started from somewhere. It could be as simplistic as an aging current exempt player like Parker Bohn III, Jason Couch or Norm Duke or could be a current bowling writer or could be some guy that works at a pro shop or a bum on the street corner of Pico and Main in downtown Los Angeles. The point is there is people out there and ESPN needs to find them.

Mike Durbin is the single worst play-by-play announced I've ever heard.

He was fine when he was the color guy with Denny Schriner. But when Schriner left and Durbin got elevated to PBP, it was one of the worst train wrecks I've ever seen/heard. Here was Durbin on every shot: "Bowler X lays it down....((sound of pins getting hit))......OHHHHHHH!" Every stinking shot.

I hate Chris "I hate on everyone but me" Barnes when he is on air.

He did some of the womens matches where Kelly Kullick won and spent the whole show saying how she should do these different changes and everything she was doing was wrong. Yet she still won the event. She also won more Mens Majors this year then Barnes did. He did this on a couple of shows and the same for some of the collegiate stuff.

What a bitter prick to listen to on television..

Oh yeah, bowling outside still sucks. The manufactures teaming against each other was good, but the final product was not.

It was more commercials then bowling.

Randy os ok?  Not great.  He does favor Storm / Roto players and it is quite obvious he is just Goo Goo over Weber.  All in all i still think the best team ever was Schenkle and Burton.

along this line i'm thinking he is the reason Kelly wasn't on the team shoot-out..
