Title: If...
Post by: baseballfrk8998 on December 14, 2007, 12:03:58 PM
Patrick Allen wins again there's a pretty good chance I'll never watch bowling on television again... Gah I can't stand the guy. Lol. I'm rootin for Rhino or Billy Oatman to pull it out.

I just don't like his attitude on television. He may be a cool guy but I just don't like his personality.

What's sad to say is that PA has...matured. I mean, when he was just a young colt on the regional Tour...I've spoken with several folks and they thought he was just a little baby/prick.

I like a little attitude on the telecasts.  If you really want the ratings to go down, stick to the Tim Crisses and Mike Minemans of the world.  Quite boring I must say.  The PBA needs more PAs, PDWs, TJs.  We need more fireballers to jazz the tour up.  Keep it respectable of course.  Personality will only add to the interest of the PBA.

Well I don't mind a little attitude, but be a little humble when the shots aren't going your way.  Also, when your screaming & shouting at the end of a match, be a little coherant so we can hear what you're sayin.  I'm just sayin.  I hope he isn't paying his hair stylist either.

I can appreciate that we all have differing likes, but if this is the way the PBA is headed, GOOD RIDDANCE.

I love bowling, been doing it for over 25 years now.  I like to win and I HATE to lose. But, win or lose, I don't act like an immature, whining azzhole, and I hate it when the men who are supposed to be respected professional ambassadors of the game, in the highest spotlight events we have in the most visual arenas, act like childish, irrational idiots.

I understand excitement.  The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat,  I just fail to see where vocalizing your most intimate thoughts and animating them into incoherent actions presents an image that many people will like, understand, or appreciate.  Nor will it be looked upon as an activity that they would want to participate in or have their children get involved in.

You can be exciting, thrilling, and compelling without having a seemingly uncontrollable, unintelligible outburst reaction.  Show your excitement at getting that big strike when you need it to win, but do it with class, not some mixed martial arts looking " crotch chop" type of action, punctuated with some expletive or luridly laced tirade.
--------------------
I'm really tired of the whining, so, JUST SHUT UP AND BOWL!

I'm a fairly young person and I hate the "attitude movement" in all sports. The concept of "in your face" is so tired and cheap, and it's really silly.

Also, where I grew up, if you got "in someone's face" over an athletic event, you would probably get your a** whipped once and learn exactly where you stood.

Kind of makes me sad to see young kids whose parents allow them to get away with it because IMO, it says something about the parenting.

For adults to continue to do it as adults says something about their intellect.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Lol. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I like to watch someone like Steve Jaros, Norm Duke, Doug Kent or Tony Reyes on TV. Those guys are the ones that are fun to watch, they get up and do their job while having a good time and attitude. You've got to be kidding me with all the crotch chops and stuff, after all it is just bowling. It's not like PDW just threw the game winning touchdown pass in the superbowl, give me a break. Sorry if that offended any of you but IT IS just bowling. Lol.

Doug Kent has been one of my favorites for a while . .  Wait for Rhino to get comfy on tv, he won't be so stone faced and quiet like he was last week.  He's freakin intense when he's bowling though.

He used to come up here and bowl the Coors Light tourney, and usually did really well. Could be his week to get it done, with only one match standing in his way.

If PA makes it to the end, I hope Rhino tears him apart!!

Well, except for the whiner comment...

The irony in these types of threads always amuse me...people don't like the fact that they think a professional athlete whines...so they find a forum (like this one) to go and whine about someone else whining...

Amen.  PA shows passion and that winning means everything in the world to him.  His actions show that there is actual prestigue and that the PBA title actually means something to someone.  It's better than watching some guys win their tenth title and looking like their house just burned down (See. Tommy Jones Title #10, Walter Ray....just about every title he wins).  Some guys act like their jaded by winning so much, everytime PA wins it's like watching someone's dreams finally come true for the first time.

Hats off to Mop.  If you guys only knew him.

I like Parker's chances tommorrow based on the fact that I think he'll make the best adjustments.  PA will be right there, but the way the lanes are going to break down will favor Parker because of his ball speed and experience.  I think he will finally break the streak and win #31 tommorrow.

"I wish that A*SHOLE would turn that camera off !"

"That was luck !"

"OH MY F*CKING GOD !!!"

"Kiss my a*s Walter Ray !...Get some revs BIT*H !"

Actually, that's the opposite of what's happening.

We didn't get up in arms or offended in sports 30-50 years ago -- because people knew what the word "class" meant, and they won or lost with class.

Class and sportsmanship says a lot more about a person's worth than their bowling abilities, how many profanities they can string together, and how brash they can be.

I'll say it again -- there's an intellect problem afoot. Has nothing to do with being a crybaby. Has everything to do with being stupid.

Since quite a few have used my previous quote to pick on, let me rephrase if I was not clear.  We need guys to have some emotion when they are on the telecast.  I never implied that they should get in the face of another opponent or talk trash or anything like that.  Personality will only add to the appeal of the sport.  ALOT of people did not agree with Marshall Holman's antics when he was on tv.  BUT, they would still tune in to watch when he was on because they wanted to see what he was going to do next.  So to reiterate, show some attitude.  But, keep it respectable.
