only one to win three tournaments (so far) . . . he's not as big a name, nor as flashy, but he's showing he has the talent!!!

I'd say he should be the front runner. If one of the other guys with 2 victories wins the last tournament (especially one who has already one a major), they would probably move ahead of Jaros.

Personally, I think Jaros is the front-runner now...if he makes the show at the World Championships and none of the other guys do, then he's a lock. However, if everybody makes the show, then it's going to come down to who does what at the finals. Should make for a VERY interesting finale to the POY race.

Jaros is still behind Walter Ray as far as I'm concerned. If williams wins the wotld championship he locks it up.
-
My vote has to go for Mika to win bowler of the year.

i don't think jaros will be pba player of the year unless he wins the pba world championship next week. yes, he has 3 titles.....more than anyone else. but if you go to pba.com and look at the stats you'll see there are several other players that are really in the hunt for player of the year:
walter ray williams, jr. 2 titles including a major( abc masters ). won the dream bowl in japan back in september( a pba title last year ). leads or is near the lead in every statistic.
pete weber 2 titles including a major( u.s. open ). has not been as consistent as walter ray.
mika koivuniemi 2 titles including a 300 on national television. has been very consistent.
several notches down are:
steve jaros 3 titles and has been hot lately. stats are somewhat lower than you would expect.
patrick healey, jr. 2 titles including a major( tournament of champions ). has not been very consistent though
robert smith 2 titles but not very consistent
brad angelo VERY consistent...ranked #1 at the moment but no titles.
chris barnes won the first tournament of the year( oronamin/c japan cup ) and has made many telecasts. good stats but missed out on a lot of opportunities.

being a front runner and not even in the top ten in points.......come on!! you got to be able to do WELL(not just winning) on most tour stops NOT just tour stops with pattern A or C(edit).....leading the titles chase by only one win doesnt GIVE him player of the year

standings: (earnings,cashes,match play appearances,champ round appearances,avg, points)
jaros....(6,14,17,3,14,11)...5 top 10s
WRW......(1,3,6,3,3,2)...6 top 10s
pdw......(2,3,3,6,11,4)...10 top 10s
mika.....(3,12,7,2,1,3)...7 top 10s
angelo...(10,1,1,6,7,1)...10 top 10s
player of the year and not being in the top of any catagory and ONLY have one more win than the others(no majors also)...stupid....He has win the final week to have a chance.

IMO, I think POY will come down to who has the strongest showing at the World Championships. I think the leading candidates for it are Mika, WRW, and PDW. Jaros is behind them even with 3 titles, mostly because I think if you have 3 titles, you should at least be in the top 8 in points. Jaros is not, so he has a long road in front of him.

jaros needs a very strong showing to win
he has just not been as consistant
anyone can win if if they win the tourny(all guys mentioned)
ill go with pdw(only becuase he has had great years and should have won it before), so that will sway a few votes

Jaros just hasnt won a major, which is double points. I dont get how you can WIN 3 stops and not be "consistent". There are other GREAT bowlers out there. WRW was dead in the water the first half of the season and came on like gang-busters mid 1st-2nd half. Some people crack me up, Jaros gets on TV and wins, 3 times mind you and he isnt consistent. Angelo makes almost every show and loses consistently, yet he is consistent. This does not compute to me. Tommy Jones, Amleto Monacelli, and Doug Kent have been in the Top 8 all year and I think they have made 1 show between the 3 of them. All in all the World Championship will have major POY implications. I would love to go watch during the week a lot of guys are playing for their lives.

Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year is not based on anything more than VOTES by the players themselves.
So what does it come down to? Popularity between those in the hunt.
Personally, I think Weber would win if it were to go to vote today. Simply because he's never won it.
I think it's going to come down to whoever does the best at the World Championship.
