info on pba patterns

I'm looking for opionons on what you use on the different PBA named patterns. I'm not so concerned with what company's products you use...more so, the layout and surface prep on a particular pattern. Thank you to everyone who contributes.

The only one I've had any success on has been Viper (success being defined as scratch average or better -- I actually shoot higher on it, most of the time, than I do on my league pattern).

For it, I've been able to use medium to medium-strong covers, typically at about 1000 to 1500, sometimes polished and sometimes not, playing in the track area. I guess the reason I score well on it is that this is the shot I prefer to play on any pattern when I can. I'm typically over 10 to 14 at the arrows out to 7 or 9. I start by going very direct, then move left with my feet as needed and usually don't end up moving very much at all. If the ball starts reading a little early, I'll just add a little more tilt.

Drill patterns tend to be around 4x4 (on symmetrical) or 4x4 or 4x6 on assyms (MB either right of the thumb or in the track) with the pin either in the ring or over it. Speed around 16-17, maybe a little slower if I'm having trouble getting it to read.

The other patterns, I don't shoot well enough to give you any "help," but here's a short list:

Shark - Off the corner, Norm Duke-style, typically with strong-cored, strong-drilled assymetrical balls, looking for hook-set reaction.

Scorpion -- Much like Viper for me except there's not as much hook. I tend to use the same line and equipment as for Viper but with more surface.

Chameleon -- Tend to have to play this one deeper than I like because every time I've played it, even on AnviLane, the backends just fly. I like polished particle pearls with medium or medium-weak drillings because reactive stuff is too jumpy.

And then there is Cheetah, on which I barely average 160. When someone tells me what I should be throwing -- because I obviously don't know -- I'll tell you. (g)

Jess

On most of the patterns you should start off playing as far right as you can with surface, a strong drilling, and a fairly strong ball. You want to control your hook. Stay right as long as you can and then jump in with a ball that has a little bit of surface and maybe a little bit of a weaker drilling. Cheetah especially you want to use surface, strong drilling, and a strong ball and get end over end roll to control the 25 feet of backend.
