What was great about this Sunday's show...
« on: March 08, 2010, 12:22:26 AM »
I think a lot of people missed the chance to talk about this show displaying the mental grind these guys go through out there.

Wes said to himself he was battling some demons and missing spare by a country mile, Scroggins missed a 7 pin early and has to remain focused. Palermaa's mental collapse after commercial break, and a final's roller coaster match where Kretzer who looked like he was heading toward his first title the first two games, looked timid, scared, and utterly lost early in the finals and was still given life at the end of the match where Scroggins missed another seven pin to give the local guy a chance to tie the match.

We saw veteran and rookie mistakes on this show, and in the end, as much as I dont like watching him bowl, the man with the most composure at the end of the show, hoisted the trophy.

For those who like to say Chris chokes in his shows, here you had a buffet of criticism's to chime in on..It was a low star power show with a lot of drama in throughout.

I can see your side of it too.. One man's train wreck is another excitement..it was a real show.. it's nice to see a struggle every now and then..maybe with all of that train wreck, people can now appreciate how good the greats really are..

I think a 300-299 show would have been a true wreck.  I'd rather see pros struggle.  It shoes that they are human after all.  Besides, the Chameleon pattern is a train wreck unto itself

I recorded the show and deleted 1 minute after I watched it. I was not very impressed. Brian was bowling scared and could not seem to pry the ball off his hand. OK, I know I could not do better.

This show more than any this season showed how much of a grind it is out there year in and year out. Who would have thought Wes would be struggling like this after the season he had last year? I certainly didnt see that coming.

While i'll be the first to tell ya i love watching the big boys strike at will, shows like Sunday really show the human element of it-these guys are just like you and i, they go through slumps, they miss spares, they bowl like crap too, just nowhere near as bad as i do! And kudo's to Scroggins, say what you will about the guy(and most everybody on here has) he is a winner. The tougher the lane conditions the better he bowl because his style is simple, and he repeats shots. It might not be pretty, but it gets the job done.

And is it me or have i seen more missed single pins this season than any other season i can remember(of course the WSOB had a major part in that)?

"Chris chokes in his shows"

You make that sound like he never loses from the #1 spot...

But he does, and it appears to be often...

Now that doesn't mean he chokes, but it does appear that he does lose a lot...

In fact, I do believe I saw a women beat him recently....

What we didn't see - guys staying with a hook monster ball when they should have down balled shooting a 140 or 150 - yes SR and TJ we remember. Now if I could just take my own advice in time to do any good

If Barnes's would just quit thinking at times and let his physical game take over he would be a beast. He easily has the best game on tour, but he gets in his own way 99.9% of the time.

I'd venture to bet he has lost from all 5 spots, jls.

And as for losing to Miss Kelly, he had no chance that day, the look she had that day was money in the bank...

This was a train wreck of a show becuase of all the missed spares.  The Chameleon pattern can be tough, but usually you can either play in or out from the very beginning depending on what you do better.  Kretzer has been working on a straight game and I'm sure it looked better than it did on TV or he wouldn't be there.  IMO, Kretzer should've been hooking the ball playing the same zone that Wes and Osku were playing.  Outside of that stretch late in the second match, Kretzer was yanking it and getting away with it all day long and on that pattern, I don't know how because there is very little hold if you're going straight.  Wes looked like he's still fighting some timing issues like he's been doing all season that results in 1 or 2 bad shots that takes him out of it.  Scroggins missed 2 more 7 pins on TV and WON ??? (WTF).  Palerma just let that practice shot thing throw him off in the second match.

I don't mind watching a grind, but make the spare.  This was one of the ugliest shows I've seen in a while.

I could only stomach a little of this horrible showing. There is no excuse for the number of spares these guys missed.  Even last week when TJ missed the two 3-10's in the championship match.  It's just completely inexcusable.  This mentality of throwing a plastic ball 100 mph at spares is stupid.  You have to leave some margin for error.

Scrogins missed 2 7 pins, he even said during an interview "I just missed left." We all know if you miss your mark even on spares you will most likely miss the pin as well.

Malott missed a 10 pin, did you see how bad he was struggling on that shot and the one before?? Sticking at the line plus a thumb hole issue, yeah again most of us would miss the mark.

Palermaa had the best chance sunday on the show until he made a "practice shot" during the commercial break. Who gets a practice shot during ANY tournament?? I never have. After that mishap he lost his mental focus then started to 2nd guess his shots, down hill with no brakes!

Kretzers' only real problem was in the final match when he couldn't relax at all and kept squeezing the ball. If he would have relaxed I feel he would have beaten Scrogings without a doubt.
