IRONY: Player of the Year race
« on: March 23, 2008, 09:58:36 AM »
Is it incredibly ironic with the whining and complaining done here on ballreviews about how much Chris Barnes chokes that he will win Player of the Year UNLESS Walter Ray Williams wins the US Open next week?

(I think thta's what has to happen. Please correct me if I am wrong.)

Plus not too many people here are crazy about Walter Ray.

actually, Jones can't win. if he wins the US Open, he'll be tied with Barnes in points. but, the tiebreaker is whoever has more world ranking points, and Barnes's total is out of reach for TJ even if he wins.

If Walter makes the show at the open and Barnes does not then I believe He would go around Barnes for POY.

If they both make the show then the higher finisher would win.

I guess I'm ignorant to the new POY points system, so I really don't know how it works. Is WRW the only guy who can catch Barnsie next week?

Fourth place finish at the US Open gives 2 points.  That would tie him with Barnes and he's ahead on the points list, giving him POY.  If Barnes finishes higher at the Open, Barnes wins.

I'm hoping it's Barnes vs. Williams in the title match.  What a way to end the season.

I was looking yesterday at the stats.  Walter has Barnes in average, tournament points (with the same amount of events), and earnings.  Barnes has one more cash than him and one more match play appearance.  Kind of weird.

Yup if Walter makes the show or finishes 5th, with the points system in majors, and if Barnsie doesn't make the show, WRW wins POY.  I would love to see a Barnes vs. WRW title match for POY, it would just seem fitting to end the year that way.

With the change in the POY system they have given added meaning to the U.S. Open. The PBA should be commended.

I love this system. Takes away any controversy. How do you figure Barnes shouldn't deserve it? POY should never be just about titles. The truth is he has been the most consistant bowler on tour. He's going to win it.
