Surprise, Surprise -Chris Collins drops out early
« on: May 31, 2009, 04:33:34 AM »
Imagine what it was like today - he bowled pretty bad - dropped out four games early.
Why do I suspect it's not an injury!

I don't know Chris, but he sound like the kind of guy the PBA doesn't need as their poster boy...go Tim Mack.  International champion with a ton of talent.  He should be fun to watch next year.

joegunn, I know Tim Mack very well. I roomed with him for 4 weeks overseas with him in Kuwait, Turkey, and Bahrain. We talked about alot of things, Tour Trials being one of them. One of his biggest goals this year was to be exempt out on tour for next year! He has battled through alot of injuries and pain to get back to 100%. He had an interesting trip overseas. Even almost ended his career by glue getting in his eye. Doctors told him he had 3 scratches on his eye, 1 being very bad! Was suppose to wear a patch while bowling in Bahrain the day after it happened. He took off the patch with blurry vision proceeded to shoot 300 and bowl his butt off!!

Tim has had a bad rep for being an international superstar, alot of people saying he can't do it on the american soil. Well hopefully this coming year he will be able to prove them all wrong by having an exemption. Doesn't need to worry about TQR's anymore!!

I can see both sides of this thinking they are the correct ones. I saw Chris bowl in Alabama the year I was down there for the tour stop. He does have an explosive temper but there is another PBA player that has one as well and not a word about his temper so far. Yeah he was talked about due to pulling out of a stop. He has the intitials PDW. For years everyone talked about his temper and how bad it was. He still has it from what I understand just controls it a lot better. I think Chris is just like a lot of bowlers has the drive and passion to be the best and hates to come up short. I don't know the guy at all so that's all I am going to say about him.
MVP and Rico are also correct. So many of us on this board are quick to jump and point fingers and slander someone for something we don't know the whole story on. I will include myself on this as well. Does anyone know for sure of why he withdrew? All of us Monday morning QBs need to sit and look at the whole picture before jumping to a conclusion and running wild with it. MVP it is nice to see someone sticking up/defending someone that they know. That's all I have to say on this.

I have no problem with someone who knows there beat.  This isn't the first time people have w/d from the trials.  Hell this isn't the first time Collins has w/d from the trials.  My problem is with defending someone who has damaged other peoples items, property, materials, or equipment.  Collins has had this happen on multiple ocasions and even risked injuring innocent bystanders.  This is unacceptable, he is a great person away from the lanes but when you risk others property or body I cant condone those actions and honestly cant see how anyone can.

I don't understand why it's always brought up about his temper everytime his name gets brought up. We all know he has a temper. Let it be.

To Jayemm and Mvpbowler, you might want to actually KNOW the situation before using someone as an example.  What Weber did at the Open isn't even close to what all the senseless donks are b!tching about with Collins.  Its bad enough that people that have no knowledge of anything feel the need to start a post like this.  Weber WAS legit injured and W/D because he could barely walk from back pain.  Knowing the truth helps when using examples.

To all the other morons that are flaming Chris Collins, its he decision, he NEEDS to cash in the tournament that week in order to get paid for the week.  So if he decides to bow out so be it, who are you to talk about how a guy earns his OWN money.  Collins did this once, yet Marbury did this for a whole season but there was no thread started about him.  Know what your talking about before starting a complete and utterly useless and absent minded thread.

People flaming Collins is no different than what you do in most of your posts by flaming posters.  Second off it was not his back as he himself said on PBA Xtra Frame it was between his Shoulder and Chest and was afraid he had an issue with his collar bone.  Chill out and quit attacking everybody and anybody that posts on these forums.  Please.

i have bowled pba regionals in the past and conducted myself as a professional...both in manner and speech. many of the other players do as well. unfortunately many players act like jack***** and swear like a sailor both on and off the lanes at the tournament site. these players make everyone else look bad. they also make the pba look bad. the pba does not need players who can not conduct themselves accordingly.....this includes quitting for any reason except for an injury/sickness or an emergency.

Yeah if you've never met Chris and seen him explode, its really breathe taking sometimes.  When he's not bowling, he's one of the nicest guys I know, but when he's upset, everyone in the bowling center knows it.

From my own experiences, that pretty much sums it up. Off the lanes, he's as nice as they come. At times he struggles to maintain a positive mental game, which is unfortunate considering his physical talents.

Can anyone speak to the real reason why he withdrew? It's possible that he injured himself on the second day and toughed it out until it was clear he couldn't make it.

As for whether or not Mr. Collins makes his exception affecting my personal life, it doesn't. It affects my bowling life directly because he bowls many of the same tournaments I do. Does that entitle me to have an opinion of his actions? No more than anyone else.

Assumptions should be avoided wherever possible. It's always better to stick to the known facts which it appears this group does not have in regard to Mr. Collins electing to not finish the tournament.
