From a serious bowler's standpoint, I understand what you mean.
However, being that there is an off week before the USBC Masters, having such a telecast could be a good thing, especially since bigger names than the best bowlers on earth are being exposed on TV bowling--a good endorsement for our beloved sport.

If it is to be, it is up to me.
-
I personally do not care - after watching the one last year, where one of the players threw talcum powder into the air before bowling, I HOPE Joe Recreational Bowler and his friends DON'T watch!!!

I could care less and I DVR bowling everyweek. I will not record this one. It's more of a slot/time filler since everything is football anyway for the superbowl.

The made-for-TV fundraiser, conducted in early January at Riverboat Lanes on the New Orleans Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, also had a strong patriotic theme. Service men and women from all branches of the United States military packed the bowling center for the competition.
That's the key. It isn't an event, its a fundraiser. Think Bob Hope and the USO meet bowling, except it isn't Bob Hope, just a gathering of losers, has beens, and hoodlums paired with PBA bowlers ( who may also be losers, has beens, and hoodlums themselves) in an attempt to raise funds and awareness.
I'll attempt to watch it, IF I can stand it.

Wait a minute. You started a thread that pretty much called EVERYONE out to grow the game by bringing in new bowlers. So do you not think that is what this event is about? Maybe some b-ballers will think it's so easy and decide to give it a try. Isn't that what you wanted? NEW BOWLERS?????
I'm thinking you just want some newbies in your league to beat up on.

Holy crap people, loosen up. It's a entertainment FUNDRAISER for charity, not an exhibition of flat out bowling skill. If it raises money for a good cause, then acknowledge that and watch it for what it is.
Seems like a lot of us "serious" bowlers have a huge chip on our shoulders anymore.

I changed My Mind. I am watching. Chris Paul is a great guy. We need to help the ratings and like so many on here say We should be happy Bowling is on TV.

Your right that is why I changed My mind.

why do bowlers decide to trash events that are done for charity.. something fun to get bowling in a positive light and the sport's own members are the ones to throw it in the gutter (no pun intended).. not just some members of this forum but other outlets as well. Bowling doesn't get the respect it deserves because it's own membership doesn't respect it or it's efforts.
I really do wonder what the response would be if this was a PGA/PBA cross-over charity event. Not trying to state that this is a racial issue, but reading the vile put out there about hoodlums/losers/etc. seems very short sighted..
Sorry, but Chris Paul is not a loser..in fact, he is one of the best ambassadors of the NBA..Ludacris (although he is a rapper and garners such an image) is not a hoodlum. A self made man, who promotes the need to keep children off the streets and has charity promotions in Atlanta to get under-privileged youth a real shot at an education, is not a loser or a hoodlum..
Norm Duke, Wes Malott, Pete Weber, Jason Belmonte- current stars of the PBA.. are not losers, hoodlums, or has beens..

You're probably much closer to correct than I was. I guess I'm just tired of having to "piggyback" my sport on the backs of people from other fields just to try to get it some good PR. I also tend to not gravitate towards people who consider themselves "self-important" like many well known people tend to do these days. That's why I have such a dis-taste for NBA players and rappers, even though some of them DON'T deserve it. You are correct and I SHOULD NOT judge by class.
Bowling appears to be either dying or undergoing a massive change in its very make-up that it may not survive. I just hate turning it into a carnival sideshow, just to keep it in the public consciousness.

The show was quite enjoyable, with Lamarr Woodley, Hines Ward, Chris Paul having a blast, as well as PDW, Duke and Belmonte thoroughly enjoying themselves, and for a very worthwhile cause.

If it is to be, it is up to me.
-
Woodley grabbing Duke by the shoulders, and giving him a smack on the rear was classic. Just hope he didn't hurt the little fellow.

I watched it and I enjoyed it. I always love to see Belmo and Duke bowl. Ludacris was born near where I live and I enjoy his music, so it was nice to see him participate in a fundraiser for a sport that I am passionate about. Some people just need to get a life.

It was actually fun watching the pros. Belmo loves that plastic Storm ball, its been clutch for him twice on T.V.
-
I watched it. No, it wasn't a weekly PBA event but it was a fundraiser and they all appeared to have fun, even when The Big Nasty dumped one in the gutter. If the four PBAers involved would autograph one of the balls I would donate money to the charity for the ball.
-
Ah yes....the weekly "let's b**ch about the show thread". We get some high profile celebs...some of the best the PBA has to offer...and all for charity...and we're b**ching.
Some of you need to go play in traffic.

money going to charity is a good thing. how about a donation instead of a farce ?

I actually enjoyed this. Come on guys, it''s for charity, it''s not meant to be a serious event. Just relax a little bit. You can go back to complaining about the shows next week. lol
Oh yeah, btw, some of you guys really need to learn how to use the quote functions properly. It''s just downright brutal trying to read some of these posts lately.

I thaught it was entertaining... something that has been lacking in most this seasons shows IMO.
It would have been even better without listening to Rob Stone the whole time...
-
The Ludacris comments about there being jerry curl juice on the approach was pretty fricken funny...

this event would be better served by being reported on entertainment tonight or in the national enquirer. this isn't real bowling.
