I mean besides all the lefties, which, in itself, is only just.
I was just looking at the original qualifying round, the cut to 64 for match play. (If I am reading the Round 1 scores correctly; there's 9 games bowled, right?) Since there were people who did not make the cut to 64 who averaged OVER 230 for those 9 games, did the PBA put out a house shot? Yes, I know PBA great bowlers, all former champions, cream of th ecrop; I accept that and recognize this is true! STILL, More than 65 people averaged over 230, more than 105 people averaged over 220!
What made me think about this are all those HUGE scores in the Round of 32 and the Round of 16. There are tons of 279s, 300s, 259s, 268s. There were an awful lot of VERY high scores.
No, I am not going to compete. Yes, these bowlers are all very good, BUT THEY AIN'T THIS GOOD! Besides the PBA oil "Patterns" are supposed to take care of "carry contests". My fear is when the scores get this high that luck becomes too great a factor.
Is the purpose of this to impress Joe Average in the audience; so he knows he should be impressed, because he cannot understand oil patterns???
I remain ... concerned.

Excellent surface + PBA players + PBA Speed & Revrates + Pattern E(high volume up front, flying backends for the last 20-25 feet with a little bounce off the outside 1-4 boards) = SCORES THROUGH THE ROOF!!
At least the show should be a little more exciting this week.

41 lefties on the show tomorrow?
Pattern E stands for Pattern easy.

I practiced on pattern E just over a year ago, Summer 2002. It was not easy; shot 6 games on it. The PBA show people have said many times that the patterns used have been modified versions of what they used to be. There used to be 2 version of each. Now I suspect, given not only this weekend's very high scoring but the overall high averages this season, that there are at least 3 version of each pattern, A, B and The-House-Shot.
Given all the above, the TV shows have mostly been very competitive, with what appears to be the REAL or TRUE patterns.

Mika close to lefty!? Does he throw a backup ball?
Hey, the show was almost perfect. If Jason Couch had one the last game it would have been 5 lefties! Awesome!
Now that would have been enjoyable.

I'm looking forward to reading Hugh Miller's online report regarding this week's tournament.

And that would be "If Jason Couch had won..."
