Is this a fair comparison? Your opinions welcome...
« on: February 13, 2006, 03:38:14 AM »
Guys,

I know he has won one big one.

Who likes him vs. who doesn't is about 50/50.

Yes, he is making shows like there is no tomorrow.

But, to me, it seems that Scroggs is the PBA's equivalent to the Buffalo Bills.

Fair?  (Yes, I know the big one is one Buffalo never won, but still.......)

My opinion......

I personally do not like him.  However, that does not reduce what he has accomplished this year.  He is a phenomenal bowler, and the constant TV appearances proves just that.

I would kill to have his success.

I’m not sure of the comparison.

The Bills were a very good team for years and reach the Super Bowl 4 times.

Scroggins has had this one really good year and a couple of decent years in the past.

Winning the Masters is a big plus but unless he can win player of the year I couldn’t equate it to a Super Bowl win.

I’m not a fan but I’m not a fan of many of the bowlers that members of this board root for. And I’m a fan of several that this board seems to root against.

But I respect Scroggins for what he has done.

Pinbuster,

My aim (not well communicated, as evident) was more or less for the "big picture".

The aim was the guy (or team) that keeps getting there but just can't get over the hump and win the big one.

That is, completely aside from his USBC major this year.

If Scroggins keeps up this futility on TV, Scroggins may be one of those guys that someone sees on a TV matchup and thinks he/she may just get a bye into the finals.

Dolphins fan here...I hated Buffalo...loved the fact they couldn't win the "Big One"...

One could say that about Pat Healy, Brad Angelo, Chris Barnes, etc...

True enough, K-Dawg.

Remember, no one here is knocking Scroggins, just offering a point of comparison.

Like you said, he did win a major. However, I would agree with your comparison if one compares TV appearences in one year like Patrick Allen and Tommy Jones last year. They won more than they lost. Scroggins isn't doing that. So, yeah, it's a fair comparison.

Everytime I see Healey on TV---all I say (as my wife can attest) is CHOKER. That guy in the clutch---when he absolutely must have a strike---throws some of the worst shots on tour. Its not just that he doesnt strike---he has many shots that he never gives a chance.

As far as Scroggins. Obviously hes doing something right. For that he should be commended. Scrogg did win a title, but otherwise it reminds me of Angelo a couple years back making show after show after show---and getting his butt handed to him game after game after game on TV.

But hey---they are pros and Im not.
