Japan Cup Finals - 300 Game
« on: April 25, 2009, 11:20:00 PM »
Don't read if you do not want to know the results.

Showed up at the stadium for the finals at 10 am.  Already a line to get in for the afternoon finals.  Storm, Brunswick, Global 900, and Vise had booths at the stadium.  Prior to the finals there were a number of events.  They had a auction of used pro equipment.  Balls went for about $80 each.  Wes Mallots's bowling shirt went for $360.  They a fun Baker match between 3 pros and 3 other groups.  A music group performed and they a cheer leading group.

The finals consisted of a 8 man bracket.  There was 20 minutes of practice for everyone before the first match and there was 10 minutes of practice between matchs for all those that were not elimintated.  The pattern was a puddle of oil in the middle with the right side play about 7/8 and the left outside the 5.  The lanes changed quite a bit as the the day went on.  The last matched finished at 5 pm.

In the first match Wes out classed the other bowler.  Wes was experiencing under reaction when he got the ball in.  He just stay clean and shot a low 200 and it was enough.

The second match Rhino had 12 in a row for a 300.  The 300 game move Rhino to the semi finals and a cash award of $100,000.

P Allen match against a person who could not line up.  A few opens and it was a easy win for PA against a 170.

In the semi finals in was Wes against Rhino.  Lanes had changed and Rhino could not follow up his 300 game.  Wes threw it very soft and had a 7 bagger with a bunch of light hits.  So Wes advanced to the finals.

PA bowled against a guy that looked like a senior.  That guy put everything in his first round match and had nothing left for PA.  He looked really tired.   Leaving 3 pocket 7-10s did not help.  PA struggled also, but he only had to beat 160.  So PA advanced against Wes.

In the finals, both started out good.  PA got an early 4 bagger by keeping in it the pocket.  West made run in the middle of the game, but ran into over/under reaction.  PA finish strong and shot a good game to win the tournament.  It was worth $50,000 to PA and $26,500 for Wes.

PBA also has this story on their home page. All it says about TV is that the PBA King of Bowling continues Wednesday Night. Nothing about the Japan Cup being televised.
