Japan Cup show
« on: January 20, 2013, 09:05:12 PM »
What ball was Mika using?
I saw it was red and blue but don't see any ball like that under Columbia, Track or Ebonite. Internet pictures rarely give the true sense of the appearance of a ball.
The Oath is Blue, Purple and Red. This one looked strictly royal blue and bright dark red.

Even after looking at the overseas Columbia  selections, I still say off colored Oath...

A Track 503T is a possibilty but I'd say it looked more like an Oath that had a more reddish color scheme.

I was thinking of asking something a bit more generic, but you actually bring up the question I have, and I'm hoping that some of the ball reps or staffers here may have an answer.

The first thing (and I've noticed this when I've bowled overseas) is how subdued the crowd is. It's reminiscent of how the PBA tour used to be before they introduced stadium bowling. You hear absolutely nothing from the crowd until after the ball hits the pins. Rather... classy compared to the rowdiness of the US crowd.

However, as a bowler, the major thing I've noticed is that during the WSOB and other tournaments in the US, the commentators calling the tournament have been nice enough to list the arsenal of the bowlers. They have not done this in the Japan World Cup.

Any reason why? Is it because the bowlers could be using overseas releases? I'm wondering because of some of the balls the Japanese bowlers were using.

As far as Mika's ball goes, in the beginning, it looked almost like a Pursuit, but there's too much red in the ball for that.

EDIT: lsf_21 called it. Overseas Oath.

Before reading this post, i knew he was using an oath...it just looks like the pic they use for marketing purposes...cuz u know, the companies advertise the ball looks like "this" but in all reality it looks like "that".
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]

First match he used an 811 C/T, then switched to an Oath.

I was looking at other Ebo Int'l companies to see if any of their balls were that red/blue combo. I doubt the 503T was strong enough to hook that much in that much oil with Mika's ball speed. I think he needed a ball of the strength of the Oath.

On a side note, even though the oil amount was on the heavier side, I think it was designed to give the stroker-type of delivery (a high percentage of Asian bowlers) an advantage. During the show I was thinking that this heavy oil pattern would have been more of a challenge if they made boards 1 - 10 an out of bounds, like the Shark pattern, with a strong dose of oil. But then that would give the PBA bowlers an even bigger advantage.

2nd side note: small wonder PBA bowlers love this tournament. Did you see that the winner gets an almost rationally large 1st prize of over $70K!!!

Could it be the new Hammer First Blood.  The colors look very similar.
