Japan Cap (non @#$%@ing thread)
« on: October 21, 2007, 08:36:15 AM »
The other thread is the typical "I hated the show because _____", so I figured I'd start a thread to talk about the good things on the show.

I personally enjoyed it....the quick recap of the round of 8 and showing a few shots gave us a chance to see some other players bowl.  I personally liked the new guy, he stuck to play by play and didn't try to jump on Randy's color commentary.

I hope they incorporate part of the Round of 8 into the regular shows.  Maybe just a 3-5 minute recap at the beginning of the show.

p.s.  That carry on the 8 pin was ridiculous with Mike Wolfe....I've seen that before a few times and it happening on TV was just too funny....in a pitiful kinda way.

Yeah, it really was a very well laid out show.. I wouldn't mind if the shows were an extra 30 minutes longer also showing the round of 8.. Really great telecast in my opinion, but as stated in the thread before, it was pitiful commentating.

I tend to agree that it was okay. How exciting can you really make it?

You gotta understand that most of the guys on this site are "bowling die hards" who just aren't going to be happy until they have Pam Anderson (naked) doing the color commentary with Jennifer Aniston on the play by play.

Bowlers love to whine, so no matter what ESPN does they won't be happy.  I hope the attitudes here aren't eventually heard by the powers that be and they pull the plug altogether on the telecasts.  THEN THE REAL WHINING WILL START...

notclay I agree...I am a hardcore bowler too...but I think so much negativity is what makes bowling so mediocre.  Everyone wants to find reasons to down anyone with talent and discredit those with success.  It also finds its ways to the telecasts....the die hard complainers want John Madden and Chris Berman doing play by play.

john madden is possibly the worst football comentator ever. he makes me feel like a football genius with some of the stuff he says... even though he knows 10x what i know about football he just says some of the dumbest stuff.

Well then.  From a commentator stand point, who would you like to see?  Would you like to see other bowlers from the past or would some people such as Al Michaels, Jon Miller, Chris Berman, Kenny Maine?  Personally, I would like to see a play by play expert like an Al Michaels with a bowling expert like a Norm Duke, Brian Voss.  I know it won't happen.  But, just my 2 cents.

The round of 8 on a standard tour stop would be tough to film with matches being run at the same time without the proper TV lighting. They could do it when they used to run the matches in the TV stage for the webcasts but not anymore.
