norm duke
« on: May 16, 2007, 11:39:57 AM »
a friend of mine was at the usbc nationals in reno several weeks ago and was lucky enough to meet and talk with norm duke. they were both on the lanes where the c.a.t.s. system was up and running. my friend did pretty good with his speed control and pretty good with his accuracy except for his accuracy at the breakpoint. he said norm duke was simply amazing at how precisely accurate he was all the way down the lane. my friend told me there was a flat 35' pattern on the lanes and norm duke killed them whether it was 20mph down the 2 board or 17.5mph swinging the 5th arrow. he also said norm duke was testing out some balls that banger bowling had given him----hhmmmmm, could we see banger bowling balls on tour next year....and could norm duke be throwing them ?

I have also met Norm Duke, great guy to talk to and has a very level head despite all his success on tour. I really don't think he would drop storm, just for the simple fact of a more versatile arsenal. I mean, how many balls does banger bowling have out? Not very many (or at least that I know of).

Though it would be funny to see a guy like norm duke throwing a Hole Pounder =)

Money talks and bullskit walks. If the money is right I could see Duke being a head banger. He is so good that he's capable of making any arsenal work for him.

well we all know if norm finds "The ball" he will use it on almost anything. Anytime you saw him on TV it was the Spitfire for norm. Only 1 show this year that norm didnt throw it and he threw the agent at the TOC

There was also the contract Lonnie Waliczek had with Circle a couple years back.  He was on their staff, but allowed to use other equipment if there was a gap that a circle ball didn't fill.  So there is a precident for being on staff but not being exclusive.

I would be VERY surprised to see Banger Bowling on tour. The product registration fees are huge, not to mention the salary that Norm would command. Put it this way, if the Big 3 Manufacturers arent willing to meet Norms price, how can a small "no-name" company do it. I think you are reading to much into seeing Norm throw a few balls. Besides, there is no way Norm would go to battle with just a few balls in his arsenal. Just my opinion

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Norm's Storm deal strictly for TV? Meaning he can use anything he wants during the week? But I do agree with Jeff. Thats a huge amount of money to pony up for the registration fee.

i agree jeff. a small independent company would be hard pressed to spend that kind of money to be pba registered. visionary bowling products, who has been registered in the past, has chosen not to because of the costs involved.

I do know there have been talks about Banger being registered with the PBA in the next few years. I am not sure if next year is really an option. I am sure David will get word of this post and reply to it as to what is going on. Norm would be great to have on our staff! I don't think I would take it to the bank though..

I agree.  It isn't that he can't make a ball move or get to the pocket, but when you see something like "Parker Bohn went with an AI instead of a VZ to kick out the corners" on BI.com, it's hard to believe you can build a professional-level arsenal around two balls.

I'd love to see them get the exposure, though.
