Title: Lake County Indiana Classic
Post by: scotts33 on November 19, 2006, 12:24:10 AM
Who do you like?  I figure most will take a Mika vs. Duke match-up so I'll go Steve Rogers who is no Midwest slouch vs. Duke.

Mika Koivuniemi

               vs. >>>>>>>>>>>> Rogers

Steve Rogers

Norm Duke

               vs. >>>>>>>>>>> Duke

Micheal Haugen

Winner Duke

What's Haugen throwing these days? Remember back in 2001 when he lost to Weber after tossing a 279 with a Red Executioner! Too bad we won't see him using Visionary today.

I believe word is Haugen is throwing AMF. I'm picking the same final with the same winner. I cant wait to see "The Dream"/Captain America" out there lol. This should be a great show.

Based on what Billy Yinger said here (http://"http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=142998&ForumID=75&CategoryID=2"), I would guess he's throwing DT.  DT's all tangled up with C300 now, which does make AMF balls, so it's possible it's AMF, but my money's on a Threshold.

Duke is making that SpitFire look awesome. The more I see of that ball the more I like it. Maybe I need one :-)

As for Haugen it's AMF stuff...started with the Radar Lock then also saw a NightHawk in his hands at the end. I am not sure what the red and blackish ball was he used on the left lane towards the end...maybe a Titan SE????

Duke - Spitfire(s?)

No way, the Total Inferno has darker colors in it, the red zone is brighter overall.

Duke ended Finals with the Ace. Il willing to bet that that is the Ace he used all of last season on his 7 TV appearances. He really loves that ball.

O and that Unknown ball that Haugen was throwing...im almost positive it was a Hawg Zilla.

I do remember that Norm was throwing an Ace last year, but the drilling was definitely different than a couple of the times you were able to see the layout.
Last year, the layour I saw was the pin under the MIDDLE finger with the Cg kicked out. When I posted a question about that particular drilling, the replies I got were that it was a length drilling used when playing extreme outside lines in order to keep the ball dead into the pocket with very little movement.

A bit random...but has anyone else noticed that almost all the TV shows that Mika has made he has been throwing the Blazing Inferno. For a ball that was by Brunswick and everyone elses standards a dud, why does it work so well for him. The ball seemed, from what i saw of it, to go way long and arc. I would think that for someone like Mika who is tall and strong, they would tend to need to use a stronger rolling ball than a Blazing Inferno.

I was there Mika was throwing a blazing, Haugen was throwing an inertia, nighthawk and radar lock, rogers was throwing a redzone and duke was throwing a spitfire and ace. The little dance Mika did was because him and rogers were singing along and doing dances in between the break. Durign practice Rogers and Mika both were throwing the total, it was hitting like a beast

I agree with Long Roller.  The Spitfire (http://"http://stormbowling.com/products/balls/ball.asp?ballid=223") is a green and silver pearl while the Special Agent (http://"http://stormbowling.com/products/balls/ball.asp?ballid=232") is blue, black, and purple.  You may be thinking of the new roundish Storm logo, which was visible in some of his shots.

Yes, Mika's used the Blazing a few times.  Last year in the GEICO (?), he used it the first match and switched to a CZ the second, I think.  I'll have to watch it again (bummer, I know).  It was a dud for a lot of people and worked well for others.  Just like most of the higher-RG Infernos/Zones.  Much more hit-and-miss than, say, the OI, AI, ZC, and VZ, which seemed to match up to almost everyone that threw one.

Norm:  Spit Fire, then switched to an Ace.

Mika:  Blazing all but one shot which was the Total Inferno fill ball first game.

Steve:  He was using the Red Zone

Michael:  Started with Radar Lock and used the Nighthawk a couple shots.

HEY GUYS!

Here goes my thoughts of today's show.

Norm Duke -- This guy is definitely an all around wonderful person. Only hypes it up when it really counts and his look today on the lanes with the SpitFire and Ace made it that much easier for him. I really thought he wasn't going to pull it out since Mika seemed to have a really good look in the title match. I also thought the pocket 4-10 split had knocked the wind out of him but being a pro, he proves that you go out there and rebound to win! A close match, definitely got a lot of viewers I'm sure for this show! Way to go DUKE!!!

Mika -- Guy really made the Blazing Inferno look good on the condition. Him and Duke dominated their first round tv matches and I was figuring these two to be in the title match although nothing is ever certain. Mika shouldn't be disappointed with his performance today, has really made some positive changes to his game! It just goes to show though, one mistake can make a huge difference in a championship match with it all on the line! I expect to see more of Mika this season as well!

Michael Haugen Jr. -- For a guy bowling off his emotions he really kept himself in check and got a couple of lucky breaks in the first few frames against Duke. Shooting 233 in an losing effort is always a downer but I really wouldn't be disappointed because losing to Duke who is a well established player would have certainly been an honor in my eyes. Haugen I believe will be another one who makes another show and win his first title just like Machuga, Malott, and Reyes have done!

Steve Rogers -- Captain America! The guy definitely has the ability to throw the ball well and I feel if he would've gotten the breaks (which I thought he deserved) instead of the ones that didn't fall for him, I felt it would've been definitely more of an interesting and very close first round match between him and Mika. The guy got my attention, a great style and a great attitude to go along with it makes me believe this guy has what it takes. Hopefully the dream will live on eventually one day in the form of a title!

Just my opinions guys, glad to see Duke win it though! I'm definitely a fan! God Bless and have a great week!

--Michael--

It was an interesting show to say the least. I know Steve Rogers quite well. He's the local PBA pro. I've bowled with him and against him quite a bit over the last five years. His personality is a bit out there, as I think you all could see, but he definitely has a lot of passion for the game, and that's admirable. I would've liked to have seen him win. Hopefully he'll have another shot some day.

Did anyone else notice the face he makes when he throws the ball?  Not Big Ern, I am talking about Captain America on Sunday's telecast.  Whenever they would shoot him from the front you would see this weird face he would make as he was releasing the ball.  It was pretty entertaining/frightening.

I was LMAO at that also.  Maybe it was his "O" face?

Haugen is the man.  He bowled well all week  but just ran into a tough match with duke. But we will see Mike again soon on tv.  I was at the show and it was a great experience.  Im the one Haugen hugged when he came out lol...

GO HAUGEN

Yeah that's what we were saying.  He was showing us his "O" face each time he bowled.  Combine that with the odd dancing he was doing and you had yourself an entertaining loss to Mika.

I honestly think that if any other bowler was in that same position as Duke in the title match, and had just left that "blower 4-10?" they would have lost.
