Belmo @WSOB
« on: December 13, 2015, 09:27:03 AM »
Some friends & I were discussing Belmo's less than stellar performance at the current WSOB in Reno.
About half subscribe to the theory that a lot of players are not intimidated by him anymore (especially the newer young players who are coming up on the tour) and the other half think his 2 handed style may be taking it's toll on his body.
I think it may be both.  It's got to be  something as he did not make match play in any of five events.

Any thoughts?

He isn't left handed.

I disagree with the equipment argument as that would raise the field's average as opposed to negatively impact Belmonte.
The New lane surface + higher volume patterns meant that the patterns don't blow open down the lane to give Belmo some of that extra free hook/room down the lane that he had seen at Southpoint.
Belmonte's stylistic matchup (similarly to PDW and Malott who also really get the ball downlane with stronger downlane angles) simply wasn't as good as say Beef Stu, Rash, Bill or Dom who get the ball started up sooner to read the midlane and are able to play more parallel angles.

I remebered that some one wrote after the first WSOB that as long as they hold the event at South Point that the guys like Belmo,Sean and other high rev bowlers would have an advantage personally I don't know that what was written in the article.

Anyone on the right side who swung it, fared very poorly in Reno
Pete, Belmo, TJ, Ronnie Russel to name a few, didn't make a cut

Lol those lefties that made it on the most recent show...proved that the righties had to have it tough. The ying yang guy and the guy in the 900g shirt..butroff and bollebe or something.  If those dudes made it and belmo and other great righties like rash, pdw, oniel, etc didn't make it. ...cmon.  Mental math shows the left side was at a huge advantage.  The ying yang guy still shot 200 plus each game and looked completely lost.

With it that easy, ciminelli and Faulkner are going to KILL IT. I would expect bohn to do the same as well..

Reno has played like that for years.  Even with the lanes being changed a few times, the overall topography still favors the lefties.  Now the Kingpin Club (where the shows took place) seems to favor the lefties also for the time being.  Either way, it's still nice to see some different names.

Exactly it was nice seeing different pros make the telecast!

For as long as Belmo was dominant...it's hard to continue that domination. Eventually you slip and then you get up and knock on the door again

I don't see why anyone would even consider intimidation in bowling..  After all this is not boxing or football where anyone could hurt you.  The worst thing that could happen is that you would lose a match.
