Liz Johnson Makes History!
« on: March 19, 2005, 04:39:08 AM »
Kudos to Liz Johnson for being the first woman ever to make it to a PBA final!  Whether she wins or not tomorrow is immaterial.  She has shown that skill is what it is all about in this sport, not testosterone.

Wrap10, with apologies, I was not aiming that comment about huge backswings at anyone on the tour in particular, especially not Mika, whom I have had the pleasure to meet and converse with many times in the past before he went out on tour. My point was, the people complaining about a woman being in the final stages and asking what effect that would have on the image of the PBA should be glad that a bowler with a pro pedigree and a huge level of experience and hard earned respect was in that position.

Congrats to Liz for her outstanding accomplishments today! Even though she finished in 2nd place (regretably due to that nasty split in the 3rd frame against TJ) Liz showed everyone in the bowling community that great bowlers come in all shapes, sizes and genders! We always knew there were good lady bowlers out there, and Liz gave all of us a chance to really see how good they can be. It's such a shame that the PWBA isn't around for these exceptional lady bowlers anymore. Liz is actually somewhat of a shy person, but always very gracious and grateful for compliments and encouragement that is sent her way. I've talked with her a few times, albeit only briefly, but her "grace under fire" is genuine!! I love to watch her bowl in local tournaments here in Western New York-she is an outstanding lady to admire!

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Tom Jones
PBA ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Liz Johnson

Wouldn't that be something!

Great show.  I wish I could release like TJ, it is just so smooth.

Liz was good, she has been for a long time.

Out of curiosity what would some of you said if a guy were wearing that wrist contraption?

I'd call him Rick Lawrence

I congratulate Liz for a great showing, however, I have to agree with most of jokers post. Because it has been proven that in bowling, the women can be competitive against the men, why aren't the men allowed to compete in the women's events? It just seems to me it is one sided. I'm not just talking about professional events, but abc, wibc, etc.

GET A CLUE JOKER & WAYNE: THERE IS NO MORE PRO BOWLING FOR WOMEN!!! THE PWBA CLOSED IN 2003----WHY DO U THINK THE PBA OPENED ITS DOORS TO PROFESSIONAL WOMEN BOWLERS!!!

Why are some men so dumb and dense? This has already been mentioned several times in this thread--don't you guys READ????

She only joined the PBA a few weeks ago .. doesn't that make her a ROOKIE? Can't see that she would be eligible for that condition NEXT YEAR ..

maybe CJ or another member can speak up...but I am guessing that the PBA is not unlike the old PWBA guidelines which stated you held rookie status until you had competed in a certain number of events.  However, there was also a minimum number of events that one had to compete in for eligibility on the award...

Since she just joined the PBA this year, she's a rookie.  (I'm not sure about # of events or time frame you get to keep that status though) Chris Barnes was a professional bowler long before he joined the PBA, and he got ROY.  I'm sure that statement could be made about several other past ROY's.  Ichiro played in Japan for several years, but he was a rookie to MLB.

Well I just saw the show. It was a good show. Congrats to Liz on her tremendous bowling, and historic day. It all went exactly how I thought it would. I think it is a good thing that a woman had made the finals, but I didnt think it would be a good thing for her to win. At least not yet...in the first attempt. It makes it better for a furute storyline, for the next time a woman makes the show.
