Overall Opinion on Plastic Ball Tournament
« on: February 23, 2009, 12:00:03 AM »
I really enjoyed watching it on Sunday and it was much better than the Shoot Out (THS Tournament).

It was great to hear the pros talk about what ball they would use and how much more hand they were putting in the ball this week.

It was neat to show the last tournament won by someone throwing plastic (Walter Ray Williams Jr.). I forgot about the revs he used to put on the ball.

I thought it was very well done. Hope they keep it in the schedule for next year.

I like the idea also by PBA.But instead of the oil pattern that they use with less oil on TV.How about using Short oil or LTD - I bowl on that and it is not easy to try to pick up spares.Any one remember the short oil pattern?
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

it was short, and how could the pros have trouble with spares? They throw straight at almost all of them.

It was like watching grass grow. I personally would prefer urethane. I have watched the tour for over 3 decades and the going back in time didn't show me anything that was exciting. I can tell by the extensive turnout the players loved the idea. Maybe do an open field for it that might be a bit more exciting or get a "Cinderella story" in there.

I loved this show because it clearly demonstrated just how important sound fundamentals are. The difficulty of the oil pattern was significantly less important than a physical game in tune with the conditions and a good clean release. I hope for more standard ball competitions on the PBA tour in the future.

I liked the plastic ball tournament, liked the old skool ball set ups side weight, finger weight, balnce holes and surface prep it was all simpilar then. I think we have gotten over complicated with the current equipment. just like baseball uses wood bats in the majors maybee it should be plastic in the pba.
