Today's PBA action
« on: November 03, 2006, 09:32:22 AM »

Got to see today's action. Man, was eveyone outside! The power players were hanging the ball over the ditch. Eugene McCune had both feet parallel with the right gutter (Jason Couch was doing the same on the left side).  The straigher players really did well.

Pete Weber was lost. Got to see him flip off a 10 pin with both hands... dueling fingers! What a laugh.

It is cheetah pattern, the shot is up the ditch and watch it fly back.

PB3 absolutely kills this pattern.

Dan, IMHO, identifying and chasing the breakpoint is more important on the Cheetah pattern than playing the twig.

That's what they said back when Amleto won a year and a half ago.  All about controlling the breakpoint.

Don't get me wrong, the ditch is, certainly, a shot that is extremely playable with this pattern.  However, with the correct equipment, ball speed, and release, this pattern has many different angles of attack.  For me, when this pattern breaks down, it's as easy as any house shot.

Robert Smith did not make the top 32 (neither did Norm Duke, Brian Voss, or Chris Barnes). Parker started the day at 18 and moved to #1, helped by a 300 and a 7-2 match play record.

P.S.

I got to see TJ throw both 300 games today. Let me also state that he had a rough day... threw THREE gutter balls by the 2nd frame of game 2! I was stunned by how far right he was playing. He used about 4 different balls in the first 20 frames as well.

Eventually he settled into laying the ball down outside of 15, having the ball hanging over the ditch, then roaring back to the hole. He used the Angular One with the oin about 2 inches above the bridge and the CG in the palm, well above the horizontal line.

I watched Parker a lot. He was using that new red Zone.... kept trying to use a polished Ultimate Inferno. He held up play a few times (about 5 minutes once)while he was doing thumb repair on it.  Having said that, he went on a scoring binge after doing that repair.

Parker is the best.  I hope he can win this time!  The TV show needs an injection of style.
