Title: Missy Parkin
Post by: mainzer on December 09, 2012, 01:14:02 PM
I thought Missy was exclusively with Ebonite when did she go to Columbia?

Whenever she wanted?

Ebonite, Track, Hammer, and Columbia are all under the same corporate umbrella and it seems they're willing to let their staffers mix it up pretty much at will...

FWIW, one of her last staff contracts was with 900 Global...

Unless it recently changed, if you were EBI tour staff, you could use any brand in qualifying on the show you had to use the company you are signed under.

Missy signed a contract for all 4 EBI brands, similar to Mika and now Scott Norton.

She also looked great in the glasses.  Apparently she is now wearing them to help with the glare under the lights from what was said earlier.

wasn't she with 900 global at the summer shoot out??

Then when 900Global decided to opt out of the PBA "bribery" contest, she had to choose a company that she could use for bowling in the PBA. She chose EBI.

No offense to EBI who make some great equipment btw, but I think Missy would have been a better fit with Storm/Roto Grip...then again I think any company's equipment would work for her the way she's been bowling. Right or wrong? Just my opinion.

I still can't believe Liz Johnson can be beaten by almost anyone, Man or Woman on this shot that was out!

She is good and the shot was in her wheelhouse!

Luckylefty
PS do you believe this shot out for show was the same for the woman and men?
Really?

i think missy will benefit with the early rolling cores of columbia. with her game she could use all the help she can get. plus playing straighter even on the burn she could use the omen core and use a vow cover to get a little push

Heck, she barley survived Kelly Kullick. I think she was lucky to do that.

It was the most even pattern for both men and women that I've seen so far. The outside gave everyone some hook and the flat pattern gave everyone a penalty area.

It was nice to see a different pattern for a change compared to the usual animal patterns.  As charlest says, it was very even, everyone had some room to play with but you also had the penalty area.  Overall, it was a better first show than the past several years.

What ball was Liz Johnson using in her 1st game? she balled down in her 2nd game to a Nano solid and when they said that I thought, good grief! that's a strong ball so what the heck was she throwing in her 1st game...

Missy has a 4 brand contract with EBI.  She had stuff from Columbia, Ebonite, Track and Hammer in the arsenal for the show last week.  However, she almost exclusively threw the Columbia 300 Omen and for 1-2 shots at the end of her match, the Track 811 C/T.

As far as I know, that is still the case.  For example, Fagan had been using some stuff from Hammer during qualifying of the WSOB.  However, he throws Track exclusively on the shows.

Wow, really?

I think there's a reason she's out there competing, and we're...not.

EBI Staff:

Mika K.
Mike Wolfe
Josh Blanchard
Missy
Dino Castillo (semi special case since he actually works for EBI, but has opportunity to throw all brands even outside of "the Tour")
Shannon P (special case)

Other than that, the "Touring A" guys throw all brands under the umbrella during qualifying (as well as among any non PBA tournaments. i.e. Fagan throwing a Red Hammer at the Proprietors Cup a few months back), upon making a show they throw the particular company they signed with (unless they officially signed as an "EBI").

Ray,

I think he was talking NOT about her ability, but about her spinner type of release and low rev rate. She always seems to use stronger and earlier revving balls than most others bowling on the same lanes and oil. (Of her bowling ability, no one can have any doubt.) That was a Cheetah pattern and she was using what most people would consider to be a ball that handles at least medium-heavy oil for the average bowler.

It's not unusual on tour for many to use stronger equipment so it burns up earlier...blends the lane out front to back

Ah yes, that would make sense.  Sorry if I misunderstood.

That probably explains why Missy leans towards layouts where the pin is below the fingers and uses lower surface grits on her equipment. Rarely have we seen her use pearlized balls on tv, one example would be a women's series telecast where she used an old Classic Zone (red pin) with the pin above the bridge...unfortunately it was her lowest score on tv to date, 147.
