In January, I bowled a local scratch tournament. There was a guy on my pair that I'd never seen before. He had a PBA patch and last name on his shirt. I assumed he must be fairly decent. After a handful of shots, I thought to myself..."this guy bought that patch on ebay". Nope..he is a member...oops donater.
Last 4 regionals:
Last--168.5--scorpion
7th from last--178 scorpion
Last--166.75 viper
Last--173 cheetah
House shot avg:
202-3games
199-20 games
198--48 games
192--60 games
You can say, "well at least he is trying" which is true. But, you could also say that having guys refer to themselves as PROFESSIONAL Bowlers and put up repeated poor performances is unacceptable. Everybody has a bad tournament, but this individual has never avg'd higher than 205 which he did for only 24 games. His sport shot averages are in the mid 160s.
I wish I had that kind of money to burn.

What region? I've seen several of these types bowl in the South Region.

Most tournaments depend on these guys to build the prize fund. It always up to the individual how they want to spend their money. I don't understand why you'd have a problem with it. You were expecting the next Rhino Page and got Joe Bowler. So?
PBA wants people like this, or else they would not have lowered the requirements to buy a PBA card.

Is his intials P.J.Y. and west coast region?? I used lump up on him in regular league all the time, next thing i knew he was bowling almost west coast stop.
I laughed for a good 20 minutes watching him do his shovel throw in the Vegas stop the first time, he is a funny guy and yes he does make big bucks.

Wonder if the person knows that he can participate in regional events as a guest?
That reminds me of my first trip to bowl the TAT, Mini-Eliminators, etc. While I'm no great bowler, looking around at some of the participants I thought "do these guys know this is a scratch event?"
I'm a bit envious as well. I wish I had the money to bowl as much as I'd like.

Actually yes I expect to see Professional bowlers since it is a Professional Bowlers Association event. If I went to a Nationwide Tour golf even I wouldn't expect to see guys shooting in the 90s.

You are right and that is sad. Lets say that I was the CEO of a major corportation and was approached about sponsoring the PBA. I decide to check out a local regional and see guys consistently shooting 160s. Why would I want to sponsor that?
NOTE: WITH THAT SAID, THE EXEMPT PROFESSIONALS ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD AND DESERVE THE CHANCE TO GET PAID LIKE OTHER MAJOR SPORTS.

Chill out dude. Anyone can join the PBA if the meet the minimum requirements. And guests are allowed to bowl if they meet the requirements as well. Guest must wear shirts with their name on the back and must wear the PBA logo patch. The Guests must conform to the same dress code as members. I have the PBA logo patch sewn onto my shirt, but I am not a member. It is easier to do it then remove it all the time. So you may be jumping to conclusions here. And second until you've bowled in a regional, you shouldn't be jumping on people. Not only are you bowling on tougher conditions, it's 8 games of qualifying which can be rough for those not used to bowling so many games, it's reading the transitions of the lanes which when bowling 8 games could happen 2,3, or even 4 times depending on the pattern, Then throw in any awe factor for the guy bowling with and against PBA members including exempt players depending on the time of year. and lastly, if he hasn't seen or bowled on the patterns before the practice session, he may be guessing at the correct ball to use and line to play. If you look at what you posted, his second time on Scorpion, he improved, so he is learning, he is just starting out a little further behind then some.

You are picking one guy out of 70-80. You really think one person shooting bad is going to deter someone from sponsoring the PBA. Besides the sponsorship is for the Exempt Tour. The regional program is separate. While I would love to see some company sponsor the Regional Tours, since the prize money hasn't changed in quite a long time, it ain't gonna happen. THe Regional Tours will continue to rely on local sponsorships at each tournament.
The exempt players will never be paid like other major sports, that is a pipedream. But they should be paid better then they are today. A large sponsorship or two is sorely needed to bring an influx of cash to the sport. Unfortunately with NASCAR and the NFL on at the same time, sponsors don't see an audience there that warrants that kind of investment. Hopefully that can change soon.

If I could afford to lose money I would bowl regionals. I can't afford the travel expenses. I'd have to finish in the top 5 every time just to cover expenses, that is unrealistic. But, I bowl on plenty of tournaments held on sport conditions. The tournament I mentioned in the original topic was on the Chamleon pattern.

Of course not, one person wouldn't make a difference. And, I'd expect to see a few guests averaging low, but not members.
This topic is about more than this one guy. It is about how laughable the requirements are for joining a PROFESSIONAL bowling organization.

The PBA is not a professional organization.
They are a corporation trying to maximize profits letting wannabes be members and claim they are pros.
They allow far two many members and dilute their product.
Look at these forums so many want PROFESSIONAL tournaments open to all to they satisfy there fanatasy of bowlign a tour event rather than earn the right to be out there.
