Who's your favorite?
« on: March 06, 2006, 03:55:51 PM »
Who are your TOP 5 favorite PBA bowlers on tour now and why?

These are mine:

1. Chris Barnes because of his versatility.  Plus he is fun to watch.  I personally feel he will win more than 40 PBA titles before he's finished.

2. Robert Smith because of his power.  It's amazing watching this guy bowl.  I know his style is only good on certain patterns but feel he's learning to change his game to adapt.

3. Walter Ray because he is just plain great.  How can't you just love to watch greatness in action.

4. Dave Traber because of his simple approach.  I don't think I have ever seen him swing a ball.  He just plays down and in.  When the lane dries up he just lofts and throws harder.  You really have to admire the simple approach because it gets the job done.  If your learning the game of bowling and don't really have any desire to become a pro but just a great amature bowler this would be the type of game to learn.

5.  Tommy Jones because he's a winner and everyone likes to watch a winner.  Plus his style is really strange and neat to watch.

These are my picks and would like to read yours.  Just a fun post.

WRW- I always like the dominate player. Plus he doesnt cuss on TV
Holman- INTENSE
Duke- Versatility personified
PDW- again INTENSE
Machuga- again versatility
Honorable mentions.....anyone who can rev the ball more than me. (just about everybody)...makes me jealous.

on edit..Previous years would be David Ozio. He has what I believe to be the best looking form in the history of the game.

Well, on sunday's show WRW said "Damn it".    Not horrible, but technically he has cussed.

2. Danny Wiseman - love the way he bowls and the shirts
3. Norm Duke - I just wish my game was a tenth as versatile as his
4. Chris Barnes - again just love the game
5. PDW - don't like him but he always makes it interesting

Shafer-don't really understand what is so bad bout him, but i like watching him bowl.
Scroggins-shows that low-rev-down-and-in players have a chance against TJ.

Chiming in with my vote:
1) CJ- Great kid and down to earth. Alot of fun to bowl with.
2) TJ- Enjoy his overall game and clutch performance when it counts.
3) Chris Barnes- because of his versitility. Definitely not because of his demeanor because he is a real turd in real life.
4) Walter Ray- Alot of fun to watch chase 41 kindof like watching Emmit Smith chase Payton even though he was past his prime.
5) PDW- He is an entertainer as well as a great bowler.

Honorable mentions to Randy Pederson because then I wouldn't have to listen to his quirky imitations, Mike Machuga vecause of "The Flop", and Mika because he also is a lefty's worst nightmare.

Norm Duke.  It is taken as a given that all of the pros have versatile games, but since I see them mostly just on TV that is mostly a rumor to me.  The only one who regularly demonstrates his versatility--successfully--on TV is Duke.  Most of the rest play their "A" game no matter what; or take a shot at a "B" game and lose.

I think that in 10 years, the name that is going to be up there with the guys who have won the most tournaments is Tommy Jones.  I think Mika will be up there too, and probably Patrick Allen.

Lastly; WRW.  He hasn't made much of a splash lately, but I don't think he's done yet.

Patrick Allen: lefty-biased, but love his game since it's a more evolved version of mine.

Tommy Jones: I love the revs and the winning; the New Power Player personified.

Mika Koivuniemi: mental game and he's intimidating without words.

Parker Bohn, III: again, lefty-biased, but he's the smoothest cat out there and approachable.

Norm Duke: gained that much more respect after meeting him at the 2004 Masters.

1)Chris Barnes
2)Parker Bohn III
3)Pete Weber
4)Norm Duke
5)Walter Ray

but numbers 6-infinity would be Earl Anthony....regardless of if he's on tour now or not.  He's my favorite.  Love to see tapes of him.

Mine would be Mika. He is very versatile especially now that he has adapted to hooking the ball more on certain conditions. When the shot is outside, he is hard to beat and is becoming very skilled at moving inside and hooking it more. His timing, release and form are impeccable. I try to pattern my game around Mika's........

Other favs would be:

WRW Jr-because he is the man right now and is very versatile.
PDW-Mr Excitement
Tommy Jones-the things he does with a bowling ball are incredible
Max Bob-you gotta love those revs
Duke-he is the best all around players on the tour
Monacelli-if Mark Roth is the grandfather of the hook, then Amleto is definantly the crown prince
