Man, they got inventive?

http://www.pba.com/OilPatterns

New patterns are 32 feet, 40 feet, and 52(!!!) feet.

Interesting that the Bear pattern is completely flat

If the oil is uniform across the lane (flat) ... is it really a "pattern"?

Just because it's "flat" from gutter to gutter doesn't mean that there isn't a lengthwise taper... i.e. more oil at the foul line than at 32'.

I stand corrected.

At what point though, does the shot just become a gimmick?  Are we going to see a shot that is 5 feet in length called "parking lot".

How much hook are they going to get on a 52 ft shot, unless it is really tapered at the end or on the sides?

I guess, I just don't like this, but maybe when I see them bowl it on TV, I will learn to appreciate it more.  Either way, the guys on TV will get plenty of practice to try and open it up.  Next we will see the invention of the bowling ball sponge.  A ball that will extract the oil directly from the lane with each toss.  Or the oil ball ... fill it with oil and watch it put down oil on the lane

No bitterness here :)

on 32ft belmo will not be ble to "wheel it from the left gutter." the ball will hook before it gets right. he will have to play up the ditch like everyone else

Looks like they made 2 for the two handers.  32 ft will let Belmo just wheel it from the left gutter.

Because two handers have a history of dominating the short patterns...

Looks to me like both patterns will reward the most accurate bowlers, one handed or two.  I'm excited to see them.

Brian Green,
Please tell me you were joking? You really can't be that ignorant can you?

You think two handers will just stand left and wheel it on a 32 foot pattern? While that might work for a game, maybe, what happens when that oil goes away? They would have to stand in the middle of the lane to the left and loft it over both gutters and the cap by 4th or 5th game. Everyone, will be outside on this pattern, even the two handers.

the hate for 2 handers is a joke. they still have to make shots. they create a ton of power sure. but the patterns are going to be equal for both 2 handers and the 1 handed bowlers. Some of you whine more than my 2 year old my goooosh!

If you think short oil means you "stand left and throw it right".....you need to do some research before replying to a thread like this.

I mean remember all of those cheetah shows where guys were wheeling the lane?.....oh wait....

That would be true.  The only time that anyone tried to wheel it on Cheetah was Dick Allen when he faced Norm Duke back in 2010.  Only thing is that Allen was the only person to score below 200 on the show since he had way too much over/under.

One time in 10 years of short patterns doesn't mean the power players will have the nuts playing in on a 32' pattern.  Sure sometimes the rules won't apply....but making a statement like that shows an extreme lack of knowledge.

If you didn't want a reply.....don't post you opinion.  You were giving some evidence of inside angles being effective.  I hardly call Loschetter playing 10 to 3 "inside"....or "wheeling the lane".  He was playing a fade from the track to the gutter.  The only person I saw actually in with any effectiveness was Tackett, but he has an unhuman ball roll and it was towards the end of the block when a touch of hold had been developed.

Sorry you took offense....but not really.
