Looking at the guys who are within 100 out...
« on: April 02, 2009, 12:44:05 PM »
This typically is where I think you cut off people who might make the show -- 100 pins out heading into match play after qualifying. Right now, with one game left in qualifying, here's who I think is still in it:

1 Norm Duke Clermont, Fla.      B      17      960      3786      +386      222.71
2    Chris Barnes    Double Oak, Texas    B    17    1026    3711    +311    218.29
3    Tony Reyes    San Bruno, Calif.    B    17    1019    3676    +276    216.24
4    Mike Scroggins    Amarillo, Texas    C    18    1369    3869    +269    214.94
5    Brad Angelo    Lockport, N.Y.    A    18    1357    3844    +244    213.56
6    Amleto Monacelli    Venezuela    C    18    1244    3842    +242    213.44
7    Doug Kent    Newark, N.Y.    A    18    1254    3840    +240    213.33
8    Tommy Jones    Simpsonville, S.C.    A    18    1284    3822    +222    212.33
9    Matthew O'Grady    South Amboy, N.J.    C    18    1175    3808    +208    211.56
10    Ronnie Russell    Indianapolis    A    18    1294    3800    +200    211.11
11    Jeff Lizzi    Sandusky, Ohio    C    18    1176    3788    +188    210.44
12    Eugene McCune    Munster, Ind.    A    18    1201    3774    +174    209.67
13    Mike Edwards    Tulsa, Okla.    C    18    1114    3754    +154    208.56
14    Don Allen III    Vancouver, Wash.    B    17    1045    3547    +147    208.65
15    Steve Jaros    Yorkville, Ill.    A    18    1313    3743    +143    207.94
16    P.J. Sonday    Avoca, Pa.    C    18    1255    3739    +139    207.72
17    Mika Koivuniemi    Hartland, Mich.    B    17    1051    3533    +133    207.82
17    Nathan Bohr    Wichita, Kan.    B    17    1047    3533    +133    207.82
19    Mike DeVaney    San Diego    C    18    1246    3731    +131    207.28

DeVaney is 113 behind Angelo, who is on the TV cut line.

Now, to show you how close they're packed, Jeff Carter is in 58th at +37. His first game of the tournament was a 143 (a lot of guys seemed to have a low first game -- first day qualifying, there were a ton of ams in the top 50. Duke started with a 168 and has a 146 in third-day qualifying). If Jeff had shot 243 rather than 143, he would be in 17th. (Not picking on you Jeff, I swear. )

First amateur is sitting in 20th at +128, Sean Riccardi.

I think Duke is as good as in. Barnes is 100 ahead of 8th place (Tommy Jones), so he's not completely safe but I still bet he makes it. I think the other three slots are up for grabs. Who you got?

you've got 9 more games tomorrow before match play. then you have 24 more games of match play. once the top 24 are cut, you will likely see that all are vulnerable if they dont stay on top of their game.

Casher's qualifying, I know. I still haven't seen many people come from more than 100 back at this point. I'm kind of surprised, actually that you've still got 15 people right around that number now.

I'd imagine out of the top 5 now, 2 will make the show
I see a run by one or two guys coupled with a bad day by someone in the top 5 making it very interesting come Saturday night.

Norm struggled yesterday if he has another day like that he won't be any where near the show number.

staying true to my word, i will wait the remaining 2 games and then give my opinion on who will make the show. There is one familiar name, however, that has made a serious run up the standings after 7 today.

Pete weber bowled his little nuts off today, Fridaymorning. He had one of the highest blocks of the cashers round.

Billy Oatman is making a nice run.  He shoots top score in the cashers Qualifying.  WOW. Hope he makes the show.  Havent seen him on TV in a while.

YEP - I thought Barnes and Duke would hold strong and think they will - they have both been so strong this year. 156 pins between 5th and 24th over 24 games is nothing (other than jumping the other 18 guys).

I will predict show as:

Barnes, Duke, Weber, Jones, Mika (mostly chalk, but that's how I see it). Having said that, it's still too early IMO to predict, but it's fun.

Pretty good call - only Reyes and O'Grady really spit the bit.
