Ryan never should have made that comment.
Talk about bad karma!

thewatcher,

First off, I have all the right to express my opinion of Shafer.  My opinion is based off of a fact.  I personally watched him here in Atlanta against Robert Smith moan and whine because he was getting tired of hearing the hometown fans root for the local man Brian Voss.  I saw him let off a few F bombs because of this and it was only the round of 32.  He looked as though he was ready to cry like a 5 year old that was told no by his parents.  I watch him on every show he makes literaly blow off his opponents when they go to shake his hand after a match.  I remember last years US Open when he lost to TJ.  After the post game hand shake, he waved his arms around as if to say get away and had the right side of his face firmly in his right hand.  You have your opinion of what you think and we have ours.  Opinions are usually biased but he has given fans all the right to think of him the way they do.

I think Ryan Shafer if he has any luck at all on TV it is NOT GOOD!

Last years US open is an example and so was today.

I'd like to see him win more often.

REgards,

PS NOrm Duke iS incredible...and most of the luck I see him have on TV...is USUALLY GREAT!

what luck did norm have?

he beat 4 bowlers, 3 of which qualified higher

he had no open frames because he always hit pocket

and the MANY shots that didn't carry the 10, got picked up everytime on the second ball

norm threw the ball perfect

no luck involved

GREAT Players, make their own luck...They bowl against the lanes, and the pins, not against their opponent.

Ryan is a very good player.
I think his mental game keeps him from being a GREAT player.

If NORM DUKE was a lefty, everyone would have commented on how he didn't have to adjust at all. He is one of the all-time greats. Class act, and treats the game and his opponents with respect. (At least on TV...don't know how he acts during qualifying, matchplay, etc.)

I wasn't referring to him today as to luck.

I note that often it is hard to believe all the light carry he gets...the 5 pin that doesn't even look touched that often falls I still can't figure out.

Of course he is good...I said that.

I also believe is Ryan Shafer didn't get tapped so often he would have had last years US open title and today's title...my opinion.  Probably about 10 titles from the various taps I've seen him get at critical times versus his actual 4 titles.

I think most of Ryan's comments are coming out of frustration from getting bad luck on television.  I mean, a lot of the comments made in this thread prove that point quite well.  Like TWOHAND said, 5-10 years ago, he wasn't like this.  He's had a lot of bad breaks on television since then, and its probably starting to frustrate him.  A lot of the people on this site probably get more upset than he does and they don't have nearly as much on the line.

Plus, was that really all that bad of a comment?  I seriously don't see how everyone thinks that this was a horrible thing he said.  People trash talk all the time, and there are a lot worse things said. (speaking from experience)  Granted there is some bad blood, but I don't see this as being a really nasty comment.

Wow, you guys really dont like Shafer. I have no idea where this cry baby thing comes from . I have never seen him act like a cry baby in my life! Do you guys make this sh-t up? I have been watching him bowl for 22 years and I live an hour from Horseheads, never seen him act like a baby. Why dont you guys go find Norm and kiss his butt  some more!! He lives in Florida, losers! Duke is lucky Ryan left that 7-10, other wise he would not have won.

That wasn't Ryan Shafer bowling today dude. That was Rob Schneider in disguise.

Shafer is a whining crybaby.  Correct me if I am wrong.  but, didnt these two get into a shouting match last year during a round of 8 match where Shafer got booed on tv during the pre match interview.  Shafer was destined to lose before the match even started today.

2.  Whatever.  Unbelievable.

You are correct...it took place at the Hammond stop last year...I forget the specifics...but one thought the other was getting coached by Doug Kent...then the fans starting getting involved...supporting Duke...and Shafer went off on the fans
I was at the show that Sunday...and there were plenty of boos and just loud enough comments being made during his introduction

Comment to "thewatcher" ...
IMHO and FWIW, your second thread makes MUCH more sense than your first !!!

BTW, I admire both bowlers; HOWEVER, Norm is gracious in defeat as well as when he wins. I guess Ryan's issue is that he's had much more practice on the defeat side ...

It is so funny b/c I was there and we couldn't even hear what they were saying so I have no clue what you guys are talking about.  But I did see Shafer rip off his glove immediately after the tenth and launch it about 15 feet (I don't think you guys saw that on TV).  Thank god for Tivo huh?

I love Duke but I must admit I was pulling for Shafer. I'm having a hard time watching this guy lose every single time he gets to a title match on TV. Duke really bowled great today but Shafer can never catch a break on TV.

norm duke showed us all how a professional bowler should be---he let his ball do the talking. he nailed the pocket all day and could have scored higher save for the solid 8 and all the 10 pins. shafer had two air balls in 10 frames----that won't cut it against norm duke. after the incident between these two last year and the trash talk today, "revenge is a dish that is best served cold ".
