Ryan never should have made that comment.
Talk about bad karma!

Ryan is my LEAST FAVORITE bowler on tour. I HATE watching him on TV. Not to mention, everybody I've talked to that knows him says he's a real prick. You can see it "all over his face".

Hope I don't see him on TV ever again...

I'm not a Shafer fan but the PBA tour does need people like Ryan's attidude to make the tour interesting. I was wondering if there was still bad blood from the Hammond incident earlier this year and sure enough Barnes brings it up and there still was. I wondered what would of happened if they faced each other. I like Ryan Shafer's willpower and guts though and he's not quite the "prick" everyone thinks he is. I think he's just a guy that's been on tour a long time and wants to win and doesn't go around worrying if everyone likes him or not. He's there to win. His attitude has changed over the years. He wasn't like this in the 90's, and I'm thinking stress of the exempt tour and the pressure of making money and getting titles and loosing on tv all the time has got to him.He obviously was offended by Norm Duke's antics in his view at Hammond and really, really wanted to pound him on tv today and was upset he didn't win. This is going to haunt him over the holiday's now.

Basically the story about the Hammond tour stop goes something like this.

Norm is bowling Shafer in the round of 8 match last year at the hammond tour stop.  Shafer thought Norm was getting coaching from Doug Kent.  Shafer and Norm exchange words about said coaching.  The crowd basically hears this as does most everyone else in the center, reacts by booing and telling Shafer to shut his pie hole.  Shafer proceeds to curse at us and telling us to all kiss his hiney after he beats norm.

That is all.

Norm Duke showed why he is one of the most versitale bowlers to ever set foot on a lane.  As far as Shafer goes, you almost get the inpression when he steps on the lane in that final match he is already saying here we go again.  He pings more ten pins in clutch situations.  Mentally, he beats himself, gets frustrated, and the world witnesses it.  Norm did what Norm does and Ryan did what Ryan does.  Simple as that.

I love Duke but I must admit I was pulling for Shafer. I'm having a hard time watching this guy lose every single time he gets to a title match on TV.

Maybe he loses because his mental game is not strong enough to combat the environment and pressure of TV on a regular basis.

Though he's won titles.  So he can't be nearly as frustrated as some non winners out there on the tour.  You'd think he could get a sport phsycologist to get him straightened out a bit more.  At least get him on a more level keel menatlly in competition so that he can perform to his optimum no matter the environment.

My own mental game is not always strong.  Even though we are not in the same circumstance with the same stakes, I know how frustrating it can be and the 'need' to blow off steam is so strong.  He's not nearly as confident in his abilities as he should be.

I don't know if this fantastic bowler could be beaten up more over the results of one game than we have done here.

Thank God we don't analyze some of the rounds of 8 where the great Pete Weber has just tossed out 15X and etc when he doesn't have the right reaction.  One would think he would never be competitive again....but he has been!

Today...Ryan Shafer got hosed....Norm Duke is a fantastic bowler...Ryan is easily capable of beating him many times and will!  More than Norm beats him?..probably not ....but....

It happens!

I think the problem is exactly the opposite. As a matter of fact he believes in his abilities so much that he thinks he should get every break. Even on balls that he obviously threw poorly he almost seems like he feels entitled to a strike. Maybe this is not the case but it sure is the way it seems on this side of the TV screen.

whoa bowlingdoorman, hold the phone right there. Sorry, but like it or not Ryan Shafer is one of the top 10 bowlers of 2000 decade bar none. Comparing him to a regional bowler is ridiculous. Sure there are bowlers in the east region that could beat him but they aren't out on tour, he is. So what if some regional hack could beat him, it's an unfair comparision. He isn't just one of "those" bowlers, he's a long time veteren that's been touring for 20 years.

Ryan Shaffer needs to get rid of the porn star mustache and the bad attitude.

Keep in mind with the scarring on his face, he may not be able to shave it off... *shrug*

Now that rotten attitude?  Yeah, I think he really needs to work on that.
