Title: Notes from the PBA WC!
Post by: Jeffrevs on March 16, 2004, 10:34:58 PM
Qualifying 3/17:
Saw the end of first shift and beginning of second shift.......first things first..... 25 at the arrows to about 10-12 at the break was VERY common to see!
Except for Mike DeVaney, who was at 30-32 to 5 with a Boost !! Rippin' the Rack! WOW!

Lane changes after each game 'usually' meant different lines and balls...kinda fun to watch. Some lanes were really screamin' some were holding up pretty well.

Before second shift , squad A, started, I'm watching people wrap up and all the sudden Randy Pederson is standing next to me talking w/ someone and watching someone finish,...2 minutes later, it's Tommy DeLutz Jr, watching the same pair finish and looking at the standings board....well after about 5 minutes, I figured, what the hell........."so, what ball is tearin' it up for you Tommy?" He says, " well, one of my round ones I hope ! "  I cracked up......we chatted / small talked for a moment and he had to go get ready, ....said he had to go, "nice talking to you"...and left....NICE GUY !!  Like the guy who lives next door...

Others..........the Traber bros. are huge ! No offense, but they are, saw them talking to one another before their set, standing next to eachother...big boys!........Saw Jason Couch, kinda walking around the place like he owned it (MY opinion!)..Parker Bohn chit chatting w/ everyone, Steve Jaros chatting it up with people....

All in all, a "woulnd't miss it" kind of afternoon.........let's face it, when you get a chance to see the best of ANYTHING in the world, it's great !

Are the lanes re oiled between squads?
There is a huge disparity in scores at the WC,
almost 1000 pins between top and bottom!

No, first squad gets fresh, second doesn't, third does...........and all each get each condition thru out qualifying.......

scores? Because a bunch of locals show up who have cards and kill house shots and they're there to have an experience.........my opinion.......

$8 to get in to qualifying during the day, $10 at night.  Sounds steep but it's like watching league but only there's bleachers behind in the setee area. Between games and sets, some will chat with you too....it's really pretty cool.

Qualifying on Saturday can get expensive....all day pass is like $40 I think..

I thought it was one ticket for everything on Saturday. The price ranges were from like 11.40- 32.00 or something like that depending on what section you pick to sit in.

I'm considering coming up Friday if My buddy Jim Hilligis (b squad) is still hanging in there. He told me he could hook me up with a free pass, so I might make the drive. He's been bowling really well so far.

Jeff the other option I was considering is Sunday for the big show! I can't imagine there being a bad seat in an arean as small as this one. Have you been there before?

The other guy from here in the Dayton area, Kretzer, doesn't look like he'll make the cut. My hat's off to all of those guys, what a grueling schedule for the week especially tomorrow.

Ken , no I've never been there....but I am an Alumnus of EMU !!  It was built after I left in '89....

Kretzer is struggling, I saw him throw about a dozen shots today and only saw 1 strike I think....he looked frustrated!

i was at the event on wednesday also

was there for all of the game sin the morning and left after the first 3 in second squad.

Watch devaney alot

started with a xxx factor 27-5 or so
drilled pin under and between fingers and cg way out-5 x 3 or 5 x 2

started to hook way to much-switch to the boost you talked about

that was drilled 5 x2
much better reaction

a ferw friends bowling most not well
kreft did look good-did miss hole for the 3 game si saw and was about 100 over

traber are huge and obviuoslty one much bigger than other-thoguht i might see them in the snack bar

straight lefties look like they were doing ok

hooking lefties didnt far as well to me.

most popular ball was the ultimate inferno, then the xxx fator
some were going with the ult dull-which was puking all over it self towards the end of 1st shift and second shift. If you had hand and had it dull, you should have been in their hands.

Question

when did himmler go to the 2 hand thing?

Its anmazing how much the lanes chenge in one set.
think about it. Each lane had 12 games on it(or pair 24). on a typical night a house shot get 15 and 30. We dont have to move like them-thats what make the tour so much harder.

also -if you grab it on tour-it only leads to major over under.

lot of 2-10's

thats all folks

Fife, I watched DeVaney finish, I was right there between the bleachers off to the left of his pair.......we were probably right next to eachother !

Both Trabers, Dale and Dave, have lived to throw the ball another day...I didn't pay enough attention to how either fared when they were on the fresh (I'm presuming that with the rotating squads that there was fresh in the AM and the lanes got toastier as the day went on).
