Ordinary Gentelmen - Wayne Webb
« on: April 30, 2006, 04:29:02 AM »
Hello all, I recently rented the movie and watched it about 5 times last night - Great Documentary.  I recently started bowling and this is a great heads up on what went on in the bowling world in the years past.

So I live in Sacramento, CA...no more than 10mins from Wayne Webb's shop.  I have gone there once coz I knew who he was but I never made any fuss about it mainly coz I dont like stirring things up around celebs.  Anyways, oblivious to his real past, after watching this movie, Im thinking "man, I was standing next to a GREAT!"  Despite his set backs, he has many accomplishments that deserve regard.  I think I will start going to him for my bowling needs.  Sure he's about 20bucks more than the other guy, but I believe in supporting those who truly made a difference and i believe Webb made a difference in bowling.

Sorry for the bloggish post, hope u enjoyed =)

Its tough to not sound "bitter" (don't like whiney) when the powers above decide to change the rules and take your life's career from you.

they really did make him seem sad and bitter. especially since he was a great bowler and did win a ton of titles. i would have liked to have seen a part on hungry young players just starting. i think the chris barnes portion didn't really accomplish that. i mean wrw and pete are two accomplished players towards the end of their careers. i liked the movie but i think it lacked a little for grit.

Hehe, its nice to see that he still has a good fanbase.  He actually looks in better shape now then he did in the movie.  I didnt know he was going to participate in the tour this year.  Hopefully I can do some business with him and get to know him before he goes off.  Maybe he can coach me a lil too =)

i remember him been in erie doing karaoke after bowling in the lounge. him and guppy troup had the crowd rolling. I do believe that some of the former stars of the pba got the short end of the stick, BUT, something had to be done or there would no longer be a pba tour!!

Wayne is a very cool guy, he lived in Vegas right after getting off the tour not by choice as stated. I met him about 8-9 times going into his wayne webb pro shop and running into him at tournaments locally, he never complained about the new owners of PBA he realized that times change and stated he was tired of all the travel anyway.

I watched him use the same ball playing up the 1 board getting decent pocket carry decide that in order to win he needed a change of lines. On the very next shot he moved inside and played the 6 th arrow to win, he is that good that if he needs to move he is fearless. I am positive he can and will win a pba title again regionals most likely but national stops he could on the right day. He might be short guy in stature but has the heart of a champion and if you bowling against him he wants to take you out period.

This is what it takes to win the heart of wayne webb, it does help to have his talent too.

I still remember when he was in the Beaumont area...basically out of one house, you had him, Ozio and Mark Williams.  Both Ozio and Williams had brothers that were no slouch either.  And in any week that they missed the cut, you knew that you might be facing them in the Thursday late scratch league at Crossroads.  It wasn't just the siblings either- Wayne's wife at the time was a 200+ bowler herself...

What I find impressive with Wayne is that he still has the competitive drive he had sixteen years ago, and there may actually be more fire in his belly.  His performances when he was able to bowl a national stop this season showed he still has the abilities...

I couldn't believe how much he sounds like NASCAR's Robby Gordon. I swear they have the same voice.

From watching the show, I didnt get the impression the PBA ended his career by changing the format.  From what he said and what they showed it looked more like alcohol and gambling ended his marriage and then took him out of the running in the PBA.
