If he was throwing the TNT, he must have blacked out the label then because you couldn't see anything spinning down the lane.

Actually, a custom ball is possible.  All AMF would have to do i submit it for testing to the ABC.  Brunswick did this with the tour zones.  They looked like regular zones with different color pins, thats how you tell them apart. As for the label not being seen, all they had to do was use a black filler in the letters.

I watched a tape of the show yesterday. One time coming back from commercial break, they showed the balls sitting on the rack and you can see the logo on Voss' ball. It was a Triumph TNT.

Go to PBA.com, to the photo gallery, there is a picture of him just before release, and you can see the logo on the ball!

Does anyone else think Brian used the "wrong" ball" for this lane condition?
Looked to me like the lanes were really drying up out there, and if he was indeed using the TNT, isn't this ball more suited for oily lanes(according to BTM)?

Perhaps another ball with a mellow coverstock would have been better than fighting the lane conditions, which is what it appeared he was starting to do in his match with Barnes.

Brian responded to this question on the PBA page under the Equipment forum.   Here's his reaponse:
quote:

Just want to clarify what ball I was using at the US Open. For those of you who don't know my screen name, it's Brian Voss again. I was using the TNT exclusively for the entire tournament. I actually used three different ones, but had one favorite. This ball is the same ball that is on the market. Rumors have circulated that this ball is only available to me. There are also rumors that I have a hair weave. Need I say more.

AMF 300 has been listening to input from Norm Duke and myself on what is needed to enhance the product line. When I mentioned on TV that they are customizing balls for us, I didn't mean that we are the only ones that can obtain them. Some ball companies simply introduce balls without any input from their players. Since we perform on tour, and we roll these balls, AMF 300 took the position to listen to our desires, provide us with whatever we need, and to make it available to the public. Norm and I use our imagination more than most people, so having equipment that responds to our different ways of rolling a ball is critical to our success.

The ball I used on TV had the pin right under my ring finger, I started with about 1 1/4 oz. side weight, the C of G directly to the right of the middle of my grip, with a medium extra hole drilled back to 3/8 side weight. The ball has an aggressive cover stock, so I shined it, which shines up easily.

My past success in the last month has included me using the Valor P Tour, the Scamp (appropriately nicknamed Shrimp Scampi), and the TNT. Keep your eye out for products that are tailored to compete on the conditions we face each week on tour. It's a pleasure to be bowling good again, and I couldn't have done it without great equipment. Also keep your eye out on my hair, it's not a hair weave.

Good bowling to all.

Brian Voss

If voss was using "the wrong ball" then so was everybody else.. an Unleashed, big blue, Power Diesel, XXX factor to name a few, o don't forget the new inferno. Everybody was playing aggressive balls and i would think that a pro might know what they are choosing especially since they have a WIDE variety to choose from.  Just a thought from a humble amature.
