31 300''''s!!! 3 scoring records broken!

Wow, a PBA record 31 300''''s were shot this week along with 3 PBA scoring records being broken (2 by Machuga). When someone made the comment that they should just call these patterns "Easy, Easier, and Easiest", they were''nt kidding.

Russell, no, and no - Machuga, not ND, not WRW  set two scoring records - and your point was?

A few weeks ago I watched pros shoot 140s on hard conditions. You and I can shoot 140 with our spare balls on any condition. You know that is true - the Pros just refused to accept they couldn't overpower the lane conditions and stuck with equipment that was too aggressive.

An average Joe bowler that averages 165 and throws his T-Zone every frame would have beat them - straight is straight on any condition - that's why we both use them for spares.

Now Russell to be fair, and before you blow a gasket if I am Tommy Jones or Sean Rash and some no name is ahead of me after 5 frames with a plastic ball I would be grabbing my spare ball or weakest resin and go for the throat - I least I hope they would

Then again, the Pros I watched in their matches were pretty stubborn about making a change in a one game match.

carry contests are NOT good for the sport.  Sadly, however, they are what the casual viewer who might throw a few games on one or two nights a year believe the GAME is supposed to be strictly because they saw it on TV.  

I'd rather see the low scores than see someone get hosed because they left a blower 7-10 in the first frame or wrapped a 10 in the middle of the game, only to be stuck with a 27x and a hearty shove to the door with the loss...

Well you might like high scoring but the bowling 80% drop in competitive participation over the past 25 years shows that most do not.

The game needs integrity...and 31 300s in 3 days won't do it.  I'm not saying 175s are the way to go.  However it wouldn't be so bad to see guys winning 234 to 208...or 227 to 199.  Shotmaking and some spre shooting...not stand left and just get all over it.

Do you really think that is the reason for an 80% drop over 25 years??? or is bowling just not the IN thing anymore like it was in the 60's, 70's and 80's..There are just too many other things competing with it..
I'm not sure if watching vs doing has any difference in what is better but all I know is there are certain houses around me that put out shots that weren't high scoring and they pretty much lost every league they had. I also know alot of bowlers that tried out PBA experience leagues and hated every bit of shooting 150-170's... Yes wanting to take on the challenge of a PBA shot takes a different breed of bowler but from my experience the PBA leagues are big their first go around and then it is hard to get a decent league going the 2nd season.
I'm not sure what the answer is.. I'll watch this weekend and see if I like the score fest better than watching Tommy Jones go through the nose and miss the pocket 6 times.

I agree with your point..and a couple of shows from the WSOB were a bit excessive.  I think a medium scoring pace is the best...where some shotmaking is required.  I think a carry contest is bad for the game...that's just my thought.

Read this article about bowling in NYC.... I think bowling might be turning in a different direction.... click on some of the named bowling centers to get a look at the future of bowling????  I hope there is room for us traditional bowlers.....

And if the bulk of the scores were done on the right side and no lefties made it anywhere, this would be rewritten to state that it was too easy of a shot...except for the left side.

When tough shots are put out and the players have...and use...the right equipment to break the shot down, is this bad?  At that point, if all are playing on a modified version of the shot and can hit that area needed to get to the pocket, isn't it a matter of carry again?

Sure, 31 scoring records is a little much, but it's going to happen.
