PBA Player of the year debate
« on: December 27, 2015, 01:31:52 PM »
Who do you have?
Belmo's 2 Majors VS Ciminelli's one major and two regulars plus a third in World Championships.

Criminally, he's the hottest bowler on tour the last yr.... While Belmo has cooled off for a lil while, (despite his recent 2 majors in my opinion).

I'd probably have to go with Ciminelli.  Even though Belmo has 2 majors, Ciminelli I think has had the better overall season with getting the US Open (toughest tournament to win and Belmo has never won it), and by having the 3 titles.  Randy Pedersen made the comment of Duke saying a major is considered 1-1/2 titles during the show earlier today when the argument of Belmo or Ciminelli came up.  So, if we were to assume Norm Duke's logic of a major being worth 1-1/2 titles, it would be Belmo: 3, Ciminelli: 3.5.

Also, Belmo did virtually nothing in the WSOB this fall.  Ciminelli made 2 appearances on the show so far and fared much better.  Yes, Belmo had a great start to the year and also appeared on some of the Summer Swing.  Ciminelli has been consistent, made shows through 2 majors in the beginning of the year, and won his titles, including the major in the back half of the year.

The other thing I'm thinking is don't be surprised if some of the PBA players decide on Ciminelli just because of Belmo.  In fact, 1 vote in Ciminelli's corner already is likely Sean Rash, since he and Ciminelli are great friends.

If I had a vote it would be for Ciminelli... Pederson's nose is so far up Belmo's arse he can't see if it's day or night...

I vote parker bohn!!! He gave me a shirt haha. For reals tho either bohn or belmo most likely belmo tho since he is the only player with six digits before going in wsob and  let's not forget belmo was on like a 10 or 11 in a row TV final show earlier this year and smashing everyone in match play of he made it there. I mean yea toward the end he was not so hot but this award is about the whole year so I believe belmo has it in the bag.
So yea tldr: belmo win because its overall performance thru out the year not just about winning titles.

I admit you could make a case for both Ciminelli and Belmo.  However, Belmo had a lot of chances in the fall Classic & WSOB for consistency throughout the entire year to cement his position as POY.  The fact that he failed to make match play in all the WSOB events, makes me to believe the POY should be Ciminelli.

Well if we comparing just one part of the year then let us compare the summer swing where Ciminelli made no match play. Or compare the earlier season where he barely made any match play maybe just one or two. And for the fall tournaments belmo barely bowled any (three) and the ones he bowled he took second n fourth and cashed in another.

After watching every left hander that could pry it off their hand make a show at the stadium (big surprise) it's hard to give much credibility to the WSOB results.

So when right handers dominate a WSOB it's creditable, but not when left handers dominate............ OK!

Left handers being a small percentage of the field, I would say when we see 2 right handers out of 13 players over three shows something might be wrong. The stadium has always favored the left and clearly nothing was done to compensate for that fact during the WSOB.

They actually did something, the amount of oil and oil concentration. over the past years pba players where complaining about how dry the lanes where, which favored belmo due to his lofting skills, now that turned to help lefties due to the smaller moves they had to make, thats one reason guys like ronnie and belmo did not had a good wsob

What new version of all the animal patterns/amount of oil can the PBA put down to make it fair for all the players?

I just want to point out that yes in the past the Stadium had favored lefties, but all of the lane beds were just replaced. Ciminelli had a heck of a Series, don't fall into the righty vs lefty trap. all of these guys had to bowl a lot of games to get where they got.

So it wasn't the lanes (thank you), but the amount of oil (to dry & players complained) combined with a new or updated version of the animal patterns.
So again, I ask what can the PBA put down to make it fair for all the players?
