Parker's Follow Thru
« on: January 15, 2006, 04:47:08 AM »
I see PB III went back to his old bent elbow follow thru.  Gave up on his straight elbow follow thru that he had revamped to this year and some of last.

Sometimes it's best to stay with what got you here in the first place.

Randy had said on an earlier telecast that Parker had switched because he had too much ball speed with his old follow through to play on the modern conditions.  But I'm assuming that he had some leeway to do that now, using a ball as agressive as the Strike Zone, as opposed to the Vapor Zone he had used the new follow-through with a little while ago.

I'm also thinking that the lane condition might have allowed him to have that freer arm swing this week.

is it just me or is Parker's revs look much less than in the past, and ....his ball reaction on TV lately hasn't been very good......just loping a little too much.....anyone notice that?

I wonder what follow thru he used all week?  You guys think he changes with lane condition and ball used?

I am guessing he led all week because that's the technique he likes to use.  He struggled all last year.

Jeff,

I have noticed the same thing.  It just seems as though everything about him seems to be quite a bit weaker.  Then again, he isn't as young as he used to be either.  I know that he is being loyal, but would maybe switching to another ball company with some stronger equipment also help him out so he would not have to revamped his armswing so much?

BTW--I think, he changed his armswing/follow thru technique ala John Jowdy's teaching of not hitting the ball <ie. Steve Jaros, PDW and some others>.

Is there any information on this "John Jowdy's teaching" follow through technique?

I know he still uses 16lb bowling balls.  Maybe if he goes down to a 15lb ball and goes with a much more stronger layout he can regain much of the revs that he had when he was dominating.

I think Parkers game has improved very much, he was getting the ball to read the mid's and the softer speed will help him down the road. He made 2 really bad shots and paid for them, and going thru Jasons track twice didn't help any.

The book of Jowdy's is "Bowling Execution"  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0736042172/ref=pd_bxgy_text_b/102-4008245-6074509?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Good book but you need to get by John's talking about all the great players he's coached.

Yeah and I believe if you watch the show again you will see that some of the shots he didn't carry had a slightly "free and long" look which is Parker of old. Some that had a bit softer release and more mid rev cleaned the deck. I still love watching him but especially last year you can almost watch him have mind melt on trying to get the softer release. Hope the worm turns for him again and he goes back into being "Elite".
