Interesting for POY...
« on: March 20, 2004, 06:10:03 AM »
Well, with Jaros losing and Mika making it, where does that leave the POY?  It goes to one or the other.....if Mika can win, he gets it for sure, but if he doesn't....well, who knows.

Maybe, maybe not.  Since Mika made the show and WRW didn't, I'll have to wait until after the show to make a decision about who will get my vote.

According to pba.com, Baker is in.  There's no one left behind him in points.

If Mika wins, I think POY is his.  If Angelo wins... points leader, and World Champion... I'd say he has a shot.

If Malott or Baker wins, then I'd say Jaros is the favorite.

if angelo or mika win, the title has to be theirs.  angleo will be the points leader, along with winning the final major and earning a 5 year exemption.  he has missed the first cut only once all season i think, and if consistency is part of player of the YEAR, then angelo deserves it with a victory tomorrow.  if mika wins, he will end up the points leader(i think), and also have 3 titles along with the 300 on tv.  if neither of them win it, then neither of them will get it.  they were the two that needed to prove themselves in order to have a chance against walter ray and jaros.  if that ends up happening, i think picking the name out of a hat would be the best option.  walter ray has more points and a higher average, jaros has more wins, they both had great second halves of the season, and they both finished high in the world championships.  although i think losing tomorrow will probably eliminate him from the running, angelo has really had the best season.  im not a big fan of him, but to miss the cut once and be as consistent as he was on all 5 conditions along with the majors, how can he not be POY?  i dont think anyone else came close to that kind of success(in terms of consistency).  i wish walter ray couldve bowled pdw for the title after beating mika 300-299 in the first match.  isnt that the kind of telecast we all hoped for?  my prediction - mika dominates because of his experience on tv, angelo does somthing stupid while having a lead, and major mika is the POY.

When Brad Angelo bowls for a title he's like a deer caught in the headlights. Kovuniemi will win and be Player Of  The Year.

Considering the fact that Mika is on TV for, what..the 7th time this season, I'd say he's definitely in the lead fo POY.

If Mika wins, he will be POY with 3 wins, 300 on TV, points leader, probably money leader and what 7 shows? If he doesnt win Jaros would be the only one who will have won 3 times, he made 4 or 5 shows I believe, near the top in points, money etc. Angelo could have also won since he has been very consistent this making shows, points leader going in and winning the biggest tournament. But he lost in the opener, so he's out. It all depends on how good Mika does today...

This just in:

ROY and POY are not determined by points.  It is determined by VOTES by the touing players.

Sadly, there is an element of popularity to these awards.

tough call this year. PDW is my personal choice, but i must say, he didnt finish the season very strong. it's always better to start slow, finish strong (like waklter ray) than to start strong and finish soft. if angelo or mika would have won today, i think they would have had a greta chance. i'd say it's between jaros (3 wins), or WRW (2 wins, one of them a major).

How about Walter Rays comment on the show about POY,  If Mika wins it will be between me and him, and MAYBE Pete and MAYBE Steve.  I hope Jaros gets it, but anyone other than Walter Ray will do fine.  In my opinion that statement alone re emphasizes the jerk he is.

Jaros is the player of the year IMHO. He's an awesome bowler and he seems to be letting the rest of the world know what those of us in the Midwest have known for a long time. I think he'll get it. The others mentioned so far in this thread are great as well, but 3 titles will make the difference in my opinion.
