Title: pba scoring
Post by: sammy the sage on December 07, 2006, 01:11:31 PM
outta sight...on all patterns this year

for today alone...229 ave...top32...249...top seed...

Are conditions easier...or the equipment just that much better in a year's time? or both

Jeff carter...anybody else care to comment?

From what I've seen on TV it seems as if there is more friction area to work with.  That would explain some higher scores, especially with the caliber of bowlers on tour....

They may be EASIER, but they are definately not easy.  I agree with experience, the right matchups and coaching anything is possible

The reason the patters are easier is that people want to see more strikes on tv, not a bunch of splits and opens... and when they make the conditions easier that attract more people to play in the tournaments... e.g. when you bowl better scores you are happier, that's why...

thanks

Is it that the patterns are easier, or is it that these freaks of nature (to begin with) have now gotten used to these patterns, and learned exactly how to play each one?

As we all know, with good practice and repetition comes success.  Is it possible that these guys are getting better?

Scary.

Talk about scoring. Check out some of the numbers put up in the round of 32. They are shooting lights out. I would love to be there watching it. I know Cheetah is "easier", but you still have to make good shots and adjustments.

I think it's more a case of getting used to them.  When you're as good as them, it's no longer a question of being accurate or consistent, it's a case of learning what adjustments need to be made for each pattern, how to carry the corners, and how to follow or create the proper transition.  Bowl 50+ games on those patterns week-in-week-out and you'll learn those things.

I think one of the main reasons scores are usually lower on patterns like the US Open is not entirely due to being difficult, it's as much that they don't bowl on that pattern but once a year.  Start putting the US Open pattern down every week and instead of the 210 averages that make the telecast, it'll be 220+ after a year.  It's still hard, but the unknown won't be the factor it is now.

Dang, Billy Oatman (my new fav pro after the Pro-Am, I gotta love a guy who throws a PAIN!), threw a 300 and still got beat.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bell Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

I am on the edge of my seat.  Duke got a 300, Bohn is now 1 and 1 and I am hoping he can make the show again.

Luckily Healy is taking care of Malott so this may actually be a show I will want to watch this week.

It's pretty simple. These guys are:

1. The greatest bowlers in the world.
2. Bowling on great lane surfaces and pindecks.
3. Throwing atomic bombs, with layouts and surface preps by guys who know more about the balls than just about anybody.
4. They see these conditions on a regular basis and know when/how to adjust.
5. They have more physical "tricks" than anyone could dream of.
6. As a group, they can blow open a pattern with great rapidity, making the lanes play much easier than the oil pattern suggests it should.

Notice that the scores last week weren't nearly as good when bowling on a BAD lane surface (wood with Guardian).

You give bowlers of this ability level a little room to play with, they can get comfortable, and their execution is second to none. Result: mega-scores.

9/8 for Wiseman in the 10th for a 277 to Barnes' 249.

3-2 Wiseman. Good match.
