Whats everybody think about it? I think its kind of cool. Kind of an extra, special match to go with the telecast. Reminds me of the King of the Hill matches they use to have, I really liked them. It is kind of like trick shot bowling, just what this sport needs! Haha. I have a few friends who have great trickshots that could easily win. Oh, and I think Pedersen had some help with that 2-4-8-10. Hahaha.

I think it's a great idea. The more bowling we get to watch the better as far as I am concerned. We will also hopefully get to see some creatvity from the bowlers themselves. I had never seen the 7-10 picked up like that, I had seen it done with two balls but the person I saw do it threw both balls with there natural hand they threw one shot and then the other one a lot faster so they both got there before the sweep came down. Anyway I say again good idea anything to spark some additional interest would be good I think.

I should just quit bowling, oh wait I already tried that.
Now that I am back and my Saws are sharp again, I am ready to cut some wood.

I like the idea as well - it could be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens every week.
I never liked the PBA King of the Hill thing though. We even had that in one of my old junior leagues and I never liked it then, but that was mainly because I rarely qualified to bowl the match!

You weren't unlucky when you left that corner pin, so shut up about it already!!
-
Old bowling show: PinPoint
Frame 1 - knock down one pin with one ball
Frame 2 - two pins with two balls
Frame 3 - three pins with two balls
etc.

But, with one of the examples they showed on TV, making the 7-10 with 2 balls, that has NOTHING to do with TRUE bowling skills. If they want to play "games", fine. Call them "games". If we're talking "skills", I must assume they're talking about the "sport of bowling". That split, the 2/4/8/10, is a skill shot.

charlest I agree with you that the two ball spare is obviously not a true bowling skill in the since that we of course can't use two balls at a time but it is a skill and rather difficult none the less. Pedersen missed his attempt, I don't think I could make it without practice or even with practice. Could you make it? I think thats why this is a good idea we may get to see off the wall stuff like two ball spares and such. To scale it down it involved a ball in this case two and some pins so it was bowling related at least skill or not.

I'd rather see another regular PBA match. Or at least some highlights of some of the matches from earlier in the week.
This is just junk sport.
-
I think robert smith could win if he challenged people to shoot 720 RPM consistantly like he has done.

I'd rather see another match than this, too.

I don't remember if Norm Duke is in it, but I hope he does the towel shot.

It is YOU who decides what happens on the lane.
-
I saw what appeared to be a young WRW on Americas Funniest Videos walk to the foul line and very slowly roll a ball down the lane, walk back to the ball return pick up another ball, bowl and leave a rip solid 9 pin and after the pinsetter respots the pin, the first ball finally gets there and makes the spare. That is skill.
-
I guess I live in a different bowling skill world ... Sorry.

Charlest can you leave a 9 pin on command, or if someone calls out a back row pin can you leave it intentionally, that is what that trick required.

Coach,
I wasn't talking about your post. I kind of like that one. I was talking about making the 7-10 with 2 balls. I consider that a trick shot, not a skills shot.

Again the PBA is trying to sell the "game" to the masses and this is an attempt to draw interest. Being a purest I find it mildly interesting but would rather see another match. From a marketting standpoint it has a lot of merit unless they miss a ton of shots. I believe they did this in the late seventies or early eighties on Wide World of Sports. I remember Brian Voss, Lisa Wagner but not the rest. Who ever competes against Voss can be in trouble if he throws 4 balls at one time. He did this in Latham a few times before the show a couple of years ago. Also watched Parker Bohn or Doug Kent throw the ball full speed through the legs of a chair placed at about 40ft on the lane while someone was sitting in it. Not a ton of skill needed for the second but was visually appealing watching the poor soul in the chair get quite nervous.

There will be a segment on upcoming PBA telecasts that shows highlights of these matches. They taped four matches last week at the PBA Chicago Open. More matches will be taped at subsequent PBA Tour events.
It really is just a bowling version of HORSE, with the first bowler to make three shots that his opponenet can't, being the winner.
It is a combination of what one might call skill shots (2-4-8-10) and what one might call trick shots (7-10 w/2 balls). Here are some other examples of what they did on Sunday:
Make the 2-3-8-9.
Make the 5-6-7-8 (4-5-9-10 for a lefty).
Make the 3-4-6-7-10 (I think they could make this more of a challenge if they were to add the 9-pin).
Make the 4-6 with two balls.
Throw a strike with the opposite hand.
Throw a strike with a backup ball.
Throw a strike with an eight pound ball, using no thumb.
Throw a strike on a ball that takes five seconds or more to get down the lane (this is difficult to do).
Throw a strike around/through an obstacle on the lane (obstacles used were a chair on one shot and the Chief (Brian Himmler) on another).
Pick up a 7-10 split with two balls delivered with one hand.
Pick up the 5-7-10, using a six pound bowling ball, hitting the 5 and 7 with the ball.
Pick up the 5-7-8, hitting all three pins with the ball.
Some of the shots (like the last two) were of the "call your shot" variety, and others were make the shot any way you could, as long as you knocked down all the pins. BTW, the 2-4-8-10 made an appearance, and was made without any help.
BTW, I enjoyed watching the players trying to make the various "skill shots." Having been present at a taping, I'll find it interesting to see what makes the show. The players seemed to have fun doing it, and those of us who watch should see some entertaining moments.
