PBA some goods and not so goods
« on: December 06, 2013, 12:24:56 AM »
I used to record every event on VHS since 2000 then got a DVD recordable player in the late 00's and was recording shows then. It's been anything from a "tour". Taped matches in one city isn't a tour but an event. So because of this I lost interest due to the fact they no longer tour and nothing is live anymore. It lost credibility of the sport to me. While I do like the World Series of Bowling, I think it should have been moved to the summer since 2000 there is no summer tour and this brilliant idea of trying to present a "bowling season" instead of bowling throughout the year has been a disaster. While some ideas about 10 years ago having bracket style match play was very entertaining especially if you got to see this live and some higher prize funds was short lived and now we have a smaller prize fund and no real tour.

I love the dye in the oil. I thought of this idea 10 years ago. I just didn't know if it was possible or there would be enough interest. I want to see this in sanctioned USBC leagues with sanctioned shots. Not only would it get more credibility to the sport but everyone can physically see what is out there. I brought this idea on PBA.com many years ago and thought it would make it too easy. While there is som obvious advantages to this, it's just like any other night..you still have to perform and repeat shots. I think this should be the future for sanctioned bowling.

The last thing is a minor rant and nothing new last 10 some years and that is the trophy presentation or lack of. I feel it is unsportsmanlike for the competitor to just grab the trophy just sitting there. Tonight, on DVR (not that it matters I recorded the show as it's now live lol) saw a bowler grab the trophy while the opponent didn't even finish the game yet despite it was mathematically over. I wish the PBA would go back to presenting the trophy instead of just having it out there letting the champion just grab it.

Tiny Tiny trophies give tiny tiny impression.  What's 200 bucks extra in the scheme of impressions!?

Silly.

i have no interest in watching taped tournaments when everyone already knows who wins
Those who can't bowl, bowl with two hands.

Blue dye in the oil is a cool feature and it can be used as a teaching aid but I disagree with the idea of it being used for your weeknight league. That dye gets on everything, your hands, towel, shirt.... No thanks to that.

I hate that most shows today are recorded but I still watch because I like seeing the new equipment in action.

Agreed - while I wish the state of the PBA still allowed for all of the live weekly tour stops, I still enjoy looking for new equipment and trying to pick up pointers on technique.

You got to be joking BrunsMike. I don't know how long you've watched the PBA but you seriously are interested in "new equipment"? To each his or her own I just have not been interested in new equipment solely from watching it on tv since the late 90's.

As for the dye question...I don't know enough about it but cannot comment if it actually damages your clothes or towels or whatever. If it doesn't so what. Like bowling is a clean sport or something. I haven't used a towel in over a decade. If the oil gets on my shirt so what. I say the more mess, sweat and fatigue the better. This isn't chess or darts.

Blue dye in the oil is the equivalent of the glow puck used in hockey telecasts when FOX was televising games.   Not necessary and not wanted.  People complain about easy conditions and atomic powered balls, now they want a road map on the lanes to tell you where to throw it?  I'll pass.

Good to know walking around the bowling center with a soiled shirt and smelling like a baboon is your preference.

People watch the PBA to see new equipment?  The overwhelming majority of the time over the past 3 years most of the TV guys are throwing a Marvel Pearl or something from the Hyroad family with a IQ Tour (& Pearl) thrown in there.

Taped telecast make it hard to care since most companies already posted results congradulating players on their wins on fb. The results are also available online else where of course. The dye is a neat idea but not for league play.

I will try to pay some attention to the PBA after the Super Bowl.

Even though I knew who won, and love him or hate him, Barnes did what a pro is supposed to do, make some extraordinary shots under the lights on a tough lane condition.
That was impressive IMO
