wow...byron gets the whole lane (at least 2 or 3 bad shots) and ciccone makes one bad shot and loses. What ball was he throwing on the left?
-
Ciccone was a frenzy left, blazing right.

Congrats to Maximum Bob, you came through in the clutch. No choke artist is Robert Smith!

Even though he lost, Walter Ray was more than impressive today. He came oh so close to beating Smith on a pattern that he probably doesn't care much for.
I don't know exactly why, but I can't stand watching Bryon Smith bowl. I just want to smack his chubby little face every time I see him. And please, Bryon, keep all that positive self-talk crap to yourself, okay? Sheesh...

Walter Ray a cheater?? are you kidding or what? If you don't think Walter Ray can play the big hook shot you obviously don't watch the PBA Tour. The reason he was hooking it against Bryon Smith was because he felt that was his best chance to strike, it wasn't becuase he was trying to mess up Robert Smith. Get Real!!!
-
It warms my heart to see anyone beat WRW.
-
I agree with Morpheus and jtuubahball. You want to see walter ray try to hook the ball, watch the arena finals, don't remeber which event, while back, he was throwing a speed zone, amleto was on the show as well as steve hoskins, both throwing the heat. Everyone was swinging the ball. Steve and amleto shot somthing like 260-260 at eachother in the finals, while walter shot 140 in the opening game.
-
Yeah, and where's the guy that said "Walter Ray was laying on the floor because he didn't have a clue" last week after the US Open? Gee, Robert Smith was down there checking it out this week . . he must be freakin stupid too. Again, it's Pattern E for "easier than a house shot." I'd trade one of my league shots for that "PBA" pattern every week. I'd trade both of them, actually.

Maximum Bob is a great draw for the sport. No doubt about it.

what balls did WWR throw besides an unleashed?

I love the announcer - in the last match with Bryon Smith - he kept saying the left lane was his bad lane. He tugged one shot, but at that time, he had his only 3 strikes that game on the left lane - he had 9 counts on every shot on the right. The speaker (don't know which one - and I don't care) obviously hadn't looked at the scoreboard - which just happened to be shown on the screen as he was making his "bad lane" comment for the 3rd time in 2 minutes...
-
The Boost is the same ball he won with the first stop of the season. That ball is NICE, I need to get another one . .

Make up your mind. In the Lane #1 forum, you said Steelsmith's reactions is what you see. If you hit the very outside, it better be 40' down the lane at 20 MPH. That wasn't the normal dry outsides that a typical house shot has. With the parade of honor scores (especially the blind guy, LOL) you report from your home lanes, they can't be incredibly difficult. After the first game shootout, the world's best only averaged 217. Walter Ray was fishing looking for the best reaction and carry. I don't think Ciccone would have shot much with his hook set reaction after the lanes transitioned. He would have pinged more 10's than Steelsmith.

Those Brunswick coverstocks . . See what happened to Rick Steelsmith? My Lane 1 stuff does that. Then you try to get around it, and it overhooks or hooks early
I thought maybe WRW started out with a Crunch?

Where is that individual. By the way...if you never tried laying down and looking down the lane...try it. Then come on here and post what you see.

This doesn't really have to do with the telecast, but where did Robert Smith get the name "Maximum Bob"?

First of all, my home house isn't the one I report the crazy scores from. My home house sucks, lol. Secondly, the lanes were fine, it's the Brunswick and Lane 1 stuff I don't like. My X-Factor works great. Brunswick and Lane 1 hook/set/roll out. Was anybody else's stuff rolling out on the show? Walter Ray didn't have such a great angle of rotation his first game, but the ball still turned the corner and MOVED towards the pins. A couple of Robert Smith's shots would have rolled out big time if he'd have been throwing a Brunswick/Lane 1 ball.

Riiiight.
Because everyone knows that PK18, or PK/LS are so susceptible to rolling out. <rolleyes>
Bottom line Hammy, Steelsmith was NOT rolling out. If anything it was a case of not using a ball that was aggressive enough.
The stuff about ALL of brunswick's coverstocks hooking at your feet just isn't true, as anyone who's thrown the slay/r can tell you. It IS true that they don't skid/snap as much, but for many people a strong arc is exactly what we like.

"Bob" is short for Robert... he has a drilling that INTENTIONALLY lowers his rev rate, he ALWAYS throws a huge hook at 22+ mph... come on now. lets put 2 and 2 together.

I'm serious! The stuff hook/sets, geez. The only ball I could get to pick up and actually roll at the pocket at the same angle it rolled the first 35 feet was my Raging Red Fuze. If Steelsmith wasn't getting rollout, what was he getting? The ball was definitely burning energy too quickly at the breakpoint. Even Ciccone's stuff was doing the hook/set/roll out thing, and he was coming a lot more around the side than Steelsmith was. I guess I'll have to make some videos and post them since nobody believes me.

I hope we get pattern E for JOG in July. Am I the only one not that impressed with Robert Smith?

Agreed,
Rat, i would love to see you on pattern E. It is easy compared to other pba patterns but still not bumper bowling like most (90%) house shots.
As far as the brunswick roll out issue. Yes, I throughly thought Steelsmiths ball reaction was rolling out. I thought his belly out angle hit the dry too soon and he didn't get enough bounce to carry the ten. Joe Ciccone made one bad release and paid for it. I really thing he had the right roll (tilt and axis rotation) for that shot even after transition.
Maximum Bob threw the ball great and deserved the championship especially with the move he made in the last part of the final game. One note here: I thought he was using a Ultra Hot(will check the tape again)drilled basically label 105 degree drilling. All in all a great telecast with a good first showing for Ciccone and a great final match between two monsters of our sport.
And for the idiot who talked about Walter cheating you have no clue. If he was going to mess him up he would have pissed the plastic up the gutter to delay his break. Walter was burning too much up front at first and tried inside more to get more head oil push to increase entry angle.

Okay, well I mean, Robert definitely is good, and I am impressed with how much hand he has and his game in total. And I am not bashing the guy, its just everyone seems to think of him as great and what the PBA needs, and I just disagree with that. I dont mean to bash him, he is very good, no doubt. I have favorite bowlers and some bowlers I cannot stand at all, he is just one of them in the middle who I have no feelings on. I just do not see all the fuss on him, thats all. And the thing will Walter cheating? He doesnt need to cheat at all. But even with people who do that, I do not see the big deal, its part of the game.

Robert tends to spray it a bit, but he's still a very good bowler. I thought I was the only one that saw rollout with Steelsmith . . He wasn't throwing the ball that great, but my only point is that if the ball wasn't rolling out, what was it doing? That looked to be the same ball roll he's had for a long time. He was throwing a Power Blitz in KC exactly the same way, and it was reacting pretty strong. That Slay/R was just dying. So that is my question to those that didn't think the ball was rolling out. If it wasn't, just what WAS it doing?

Hamster R-
Yes, Steelsmith's ball was rolling out. Perhaps, he was doing that on purpose, like Amleto does. However, at the end of his match, did you notice he seemed to soften his speed a bit, and the ball turned the corner, hit & carried? He's probably kicking himself a bit, as he "found it" when he was already beat.
-
That's what I thought . . . I did notice he softened his speed and came a little more around it in the tenth frame and as a result threw some pretty good shots. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally crazy.

Look, if he softened his speed & the ball started to turn the corner, then it was NOT rolling out in the first place.
Roll out is caused by the expenditure of too much energy, this causes the ball to quit hooking as much because there simply isn't the potential energy left in the ball to continue the motion. It also contributes to lackluster hitting power.
Hence the reason many slower player have begun having so much trouble with rollout in the days of high load particles.
What I will say is this. With ANY ball, to maximize your hitting power the ball needs to be in a roll. If you are throwing the ball through the breakpoint (ex. Steelsmith) the ball will maintain its skid too long & not finish like it should. On shorter patterns & carrydown this can appear to be roll out.
So, it wasn't a matter of the softening of his speed to stop the ball from rolling out. It was a matter of giving the ball a chance to hook up at the breakpoint & not skid through.
I think that the ideal ball for Steelsmith probably would have been a Moster Bruiser on that day. A smooth reacting core like the Slay/r, a polished cover to get through the heads, but a little more bite from the PK18 coverstock.
-
Good points, but it was a shorter pattern, and Brunswick likes to hook early and sharply. If nothing else, I love how clean Brunswick coverstocks are. When they start moving, they move. Man I want another Raging Red.

All I can say is that the camera shots are very crappy. Why focus close up on their faces. Let's get close up of where they are standing, their releases, follow throughs and the path of the ball. Keep those signs and scores off their bodies put them after or before the shots.
-
WRW started with a Track Magic. PBA pattern E is easy to PBA players and would probably be a shot a decent league bowler could average 200+ on. When 4 bowlers out of the total field are under I dont care what ANYONE says it is a soft shot. Is it a house shot? No. But if anyone watched the show it was very easy to get to the pocket. Us average bowlers would probably have to figure out a way to carry.
