PBA TOURNAMENT TONIGHT ON CBS SPORTS
« on: June 18, 2013, 02:26:11 PM »
I just received an e-mail from CBS Sports that the Lucas Oil Wolf Open will be televised tonight at 7 PM on their network. In my area (Bergen County, NJ), Cablevision carries CBS Sports on Channel 143.

The finalists are:  Pete Weber, Bill O'Neill, Chris Loschetter, Norm Duke, and a fellow named Tackett.

Good for Chris. Meet him at a Pro-Am one year and he was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Happy to see him get his first title. Hope it doesnt take that long to get his second.

Was a fun event to watch, although was surprised at some of the ball choices  ( thought we would of seen much less aggressive balls being thrown similar to O'Neil and the Vibe).

Pete with a gutter ball and Norm just looked baffled, don't see that often.

If your Brunswick you gotta be smacking yourself. One of the longest streaks on the Tour without a win, goes Independent, throws Storm and wins his first title. Granted it probably has more to do with him finally managing his nerves better, but its still gotta sting a bit.

No doubt about the sting to Brunswick.  After all, Loschetter was a loyal staffer to them for most of the time he's been on tour.

This would not be the first time that the pros have used strong stuff on short patterns for the show.  I remember back in 2010 when Eugene McCune won his 2nd title on Cheetah, that 4 of the 5 pros used the strongest balls possible at that time.  This is what everyone used on that show:

Lonnie Waliczek: Brunswick Evil Siege
Michael Haugen Jr.: 900 Global Bank
Dick Allen: Ebonite Mission and Ebonite Vital Energy
Eugene McCune: Hammer Taboo
Norm Duke: Storm Tropical Heat

Randy Pedersen explained the reasoning of strong equipment for the show.  It was because the stronger stuff would lose energy quicker and be more controllable in the back part of the lane.

I have tried this before on some shorter patterns.  Sometimes, it will work.  For example, I've thrown a Storm Anarchy, Roto Grip Infinite Theory, and an Ebonite Vital Energy before  on higher friction HPL and Anvilane.  For me, I can stay firm and bump further left while keeping the ball reaction I want.  Most times, I will use my Storm Frantic.  It's all dependent on the lane surface and how the individual lanes are playing at that time.

I figured that's what the idea was, but I just thought it would be neat to see the players throwing something other than the same high volume balls that they always seem to throw. It why I was excited to O'Neil bust the Vibe out, and thought it would of been awesome to see someone break out one of the Storm Breeze lines or something.

Obviously the goal is to win, but I'm sure the ball manufacturers would have loved to see some of those lower market price balls thrown as well just to up their visibility. Granted I know some of them were thrown this week while they were trying to figure things out, just kind of one of those things I would of liked to have seen.

I didn't read all the posts but I know that Bill O'neill started with an Arson Low Flare.

I did not see the drilling!  He switched to a blue Taboo.  Pete used an IQ tour solid and had a tropical heat hybrid he might have used.

I think Loschetter used an IQ tour solid also.  All of these balls have diffs of low medium to low but for sure under .040.

Surprisingly EJ Tacket used a Primal Rage and made it look very good.

Here is a playlist for the tournament.
My source for a while now.

It was nice to see Chris win for the first time.  He always kind of annoyed me for some reason, but he changed that when I watched last night.  His nerves seemed in check and it sure seemed to help.

I actually found myself rooting for him towards the end - even though I was rooting for the Real Deal the whole way through.

All of you who are whining about the poster who congratulated Loschetter on winning need to get over it already.

Number one, you're on a site where bowling is talked about 24/7/365, so the chance that the most recent show will be talked about is pretty high.

Second, you click on a thread titled "PBA TOURNAMENT TONIGHT ON CBS SPORTS". What did you think people were going to talk about, golf? Use some common sense.

Lastly, nowhere in the thread title was the winner named, it only happened in a post talking ABOUT THE SHOW. So, if you don't want to know who won, don't click on a thread where people are talking about the previous night's show, PERIOD. Like I said, find something useful to complain about, or carry on.

, but golf was talked about!!

I agree though.  I just watched the recording last night and purposely stayed away from this thread all yesterday.  Wasn't a big deal.

I like the job CBS Sports has done so far with their televised coverage. Allotting 2 hours instead of 1.5 hours makes a big difference, as they actually have enough time to talk to players between matches and after the tournament. I hope they do more CBS Sports coverage for future events past this summer. Digging the prime time slot during the week, too.

Actually Bill switched to the Cobalt Vibe.  Although he did throw the original Taboo once in the 10th frame against Norm Duke.
