Since ESPN Classic has started showing the older shows in the morning, I've really been amazed by how much variety they used to have in the TV show. Maybe it's because I see one show from '98, then one from '95, then '01, then '93, then... . But there are lots of different formats for the TV show that I've seen recently. The one-game shootout where the bottom three bowlers bowl together, the winner advances to the semis. The three-game shootout with four guys, top two total pins advance to bowl for the title. Lots of step-ladder finals, some five-man match play with the wildcard (like the '03-'04 season). Doubles.
Why is it that every tournament we see now is four-man match play? There were two step-ladder finals last year (Masters, US Open) and 19 four-man match play finals. Who here would like to see more variety in the telecast?

I'm all about that!
The most interesting one I saw recently was one of the seniors shows where they held the tournament out doors. All 4 of the lower seeds bowled it out in one game to face the top seed for the championship & prize. The prize? A new home!

I liked that one too, except that there were a bunch of old guys sweatin' it up outside. :/ I think the house was a cool prize, though. I certainly would like to see more outdoors bowling. The Masters was pretty cool, but it was practically indoors since the stadium was covered (I think). Having the finals in a real outdoors setting (i.e., Central Park; they did that once, I think) would be very neat.
