I'm sorry but Stone's live debut was horrible. No I don't want Dave Ryan back but Jesus this guy is horrible.

Anyone who didn't think it was an act should watch the show again.  Stone called the front 4 for Jaros a 4 bagger in game one.  He said he was just learning the lingo, that doesn't mean he hasn't learned anything yet, he just didn't use the term turkey until the end of game 1.  Others have said this already, he is there to appeal to the everyday audience as he gets questions that they don't understand answered.  Instead, some expect the PBA to just cater to knowledgeable bowling audience.  Furthermore, in Randy's column on PBA.com this week he said:

Okay, back to the telecast. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Rob Stone is a gas to work with. Keep in mind, people, that the shows will NEVER be like they were back in the good old days. These shows are meant to be entertaining, FOR EVERYBODY, not just bowlers. I promise I will continue to do my best to give all of my hardcore peeps the 411. I will also try and keep it entertaining.

I may be in the minority, but I would rather have this guy that Dave Ryan!! Ryan was terrible as a bowling announcer.

I'm willing to give Rob Stone a chance.  But I would advise him to watch past PBA events on Strikepass or Youtube to get educated in bowling terminology and how to call a match.  He could also use this to understand the greats in the sport and how they impacted the sport today.  He should also get with Randy and other current and pass tour professionals to get an understanding of ball equipment, lane surfaces and the overall bowler experience.

That's the way the PBA wants it an ENTERTAINMENT show. Purists best get used to it.

You can make the show entertaining but still have both commentators have some knowledge of the game.  If Stone knows the history and mechanics of the game as well as the lingo, he can have a better sense of when to ask Randy to elaborate on things, or have a better sense of how big of a deal it is when someone converts the Big Four or the Greek Church.

In my opinion, Randy should just take Rob Stone bowling a couple nights a week.  That alone would help Rob appreciate the game more and understand some the finer points.

A blind dog with a note in its mouth can learn the lingo in a week.  It's just not that hard. This guy was hired months ago.  You think maybe that is sufficient time to learn that nobody calls it the 'one' pin?  It's obvious he hasn't done ANY homework.  There were a couple of times in both weeks' shows when it was obvious Randy P. was getting tired of carrying this guy, like when he asked our hero if he liked to swing the ball or play it straight.  

Yeah, this clueless mic chewer showed that pro bowling can't find commentators who know the game.  Randy Petersen is bad enough--though obviously knowledgeable, he has made the kind of gaffes that would have gotten most national TV announcers fired long ago, and his sense of 'humor' often leaves a sensible person just shaking his head, but he is a gem next to this new guy.  Pro bowling is absolutely shredding what little is left of its image and if they can't replace this guy RIGHT NOW the hemmorraging
