PBA=DULL
« on: October 29, 2006, 04:06:26 AM »
I love bowling. Came across the PBA on ESPN. Spare after spare. BORING!
If I won't watch bowling they might as well shut down because the general public will never watch that crap.

I WANT A STRIKE FEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want a strike fest just wait until they aren't on a sport compliant shot... that usually helps.

As I was told by an exempt PBA member "I am more impressed with a bowler who can make spares during their game than I am with a bowler who can string strikes."

Game 1 was awesome, game 2 was more impressive to me because of the spare converting. Take it as you want, strikes dont always come easy as you will eventually learn if you bowl on anything else then a House shot.

This is a debate that has been had over and over.  Yes, watching the top players in the world shoot spares and make adjustments is more impressive to a small number of people who actually understand bowling, but if the PBA wants more of the general public to watch, they have to wall them up and let it be a strike fest.

I agree Completely Mike, but sadly I think it's the only chance the PBA has of increasing ratings.

If they want to increase ratings maybe they should stop trying to directly compete with Sunday afternoon football...

Doug Kent averaged 257 over 3 games today on a difficult shot.  That's a strike fest.  This is why he's $100,000 richer.  Man was he smoking today!

I don't know why everyone has to be so hostile on this site, although I would guess that it has to do with you being 17. I personally would much rather see the tour use really tough conditions every week, but the general public doesn't even understand what a condition is.  I just don't think you can keep the game very challenging for the pros and get viewers. If the microsoft guys couldn't do it, I don't know know if anyone can.

I thought 248-248 the first match, 248 for Kent the second match, and 277-230 the third match WAS a strikefest!!!
Did anyone see the clips showing Kent's skill and adjustments over the course of the matches? It was awesome.
They showed him playing 5 board, then 20, then 25 board (or thereabouts).
I turned to my hubby and said "and that's why I'll never be good enough to play with the big boys!!!"

Are YOU big enough?

if you want a strikefest go watch a league on a ths... they were bowling on a USBC
compliant sport shot... none of the scores today were bad for bowling on that, and being able to convert all the spares, even better....

i think they bowled very well for being the USBC MASTERS
