PBA=DULL
« on: October 29, 2006, 04:06:26 AM »
I love bowling. Came across the PBA on ESPN. Spare after spare. BORING!
If I won't watch bowling they might as well shut down because the general public will never watch that crap.

I WANT A STRIKE FEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought 248-248 the first match, 248 for Kent the second match, and 277-230 the third match WAS a strikefest!!!
Did anyone see the clips showing Kent's skill and adjustments over the course of the matches? It was awesome.
They showed him playing 5 board, then 20, then 25 board (or thereabouts).
I turned to my hubby and said "and that's why I'll never be good enough to play with the big boys!!!"

Are YOU big enough?

NOTE - custom bowling towels are here. A custom towel without that rubbery or sticky feel!! And you can do just one.

Last night I made my moves left like that last night but nothing that drastic! started playing 20-7 then 21-8, then 21-9. Those of us who know a thing or two about bowling will know that there has to be adjustments from shot to shot. If you dont keep up with the conditions then your gonna have 1 great game, 1 really horrible game and maybe an inbetween game, if your lucky.

Bowling dont appeal to most of the general public which is understandable. The only reason why they show the Finals on TV is to try and market the sport to the younger crowd and for the bowlers in america.

All I can tell you guys is that during a commercial for a football game I happended to see bowling was on tv. I watched maybe 5 frames and saw 2 strikes. I see I missed the high scoring.
While a sport shot may help show who is the most consistant bowler, the public doesn't pay to watch consistancy. They want to see excitment. For 99% of the people who might tune into bowling that = high scoring. These matches should be 279 to 258. Finding a way to carry the best on an easier shot is just as challenging as a sport shot, it's just a slightly different skill set.
The sport shot and pba shots are just helping erase bowling from TV. See the prize fund shrink if you don't believe me. At this rate the PBA won't exist by the end of the decade. Adapt or die.

Most people I talk to, tune into bowling when they want to take a nap.  Both bowlers and non bowlers tell me this.

Okay, so the PBA needs to do two things:

1. Go to an exempt field of ONLY bowlers who can throw 500+ rpms or higher.
2. Lay out the easiest THS possible so we get a 300 - 290 match EVERY time.

Sadly fiveseventen the answer to that question is probably yes. I personally hate the strike fests, but what else can the PBA do?  It seems to me that the PBA and the sport we all love is destined to fail on television unless some changes are made quickly.

One guy shot a game under 230, and that was the amatuer.  How much more of a strikefest do you want?  It took each guy a couple frames to find the adjustment and then it was off to the races.  With the exception of Kent vs. Lambert, each match was lost by the guy that missed first.

It's a rather uneducated judgment of the show if you only watched 5 frames out of 60, that's 8% of the show.

I am not saying you're wrong, because I couldn't find evidence either way; but I would be surprised that it is more watched than the NBA or Nascar.

Hmm, I really thought today was exciting. But my family who isn't into bowling got into it today. They thought it was exciting to see the tie and how they could move hte ball. Now partially because the Packers weren't on and they had not much else to watch btu still they really thought it was cool.

IMO the pba is good, maybe a different time but theres no really good tiem for them, sunday afternoon is just fine IMO.

You saw precisely the wrong part of the whole show.  Every other set of five frames would have had at least four out of five strikes for each bowler.

Those lanes probably do start off tough.  The oil pattern is irrelevant when they get the amount of "practice time" they do to break down the lanes and make it a lot easier.

i can't speak for everyone else but when the pba tour and the nfl are on tv at the same time the nfl gets recorded and i'll watch it later. i'd much rather watch the pba---i think any serious bowler would. the manager at the center i bowl leagues at puts all 3 of the tv's on espn on sundays at noon.
